If we had covid numbers like Florida or Georgia, would you do things differently?

They're putting in hand washing stations, UV light hvacs, grouping kids into pods of 4-5 kids, providing PPE for teachers, including more outdoor time while the weather holds. We have been doing play dates, going to the pool, went on vacation, etc. My husband gets tested weekly for work. I wear a mask when I go out. We don't visit anyone that is old or immunocompromised. I don't stress too much about it otherwise, I certainly wouldn't go into full lockdown, that seems very excessive for healthy folks.

While the weather holds? Like the bitter arctic cold in GA?

It does get cold in GA in late fall and winter. Temps can fall into the 40s and 30s.

Georgia is having cases all over, specifically in schools...

Schools? Aside from like 2 school districts, the other public schools are virtual only and haven't even opened yet.

We did have numbers like that

We stayed home

The numbers went down

We went out

It's just cycling through the southern states

And because there were no more covid headlines to scream about in the north the media turned their attention to the south

next it will be the midwest and rural areas of the west

The R value is actually highest in Hawaii but I guess that doesn't make a good news story

We're in Houston. Many are doing DL, even if the districts decide after starting the year virtually, to go in person after the first 4-12 weeks.
My sister has 10 year old DL but started 4 year old in Pre-K in same private both were in last school year. She is aware of the risk but feels it's one they'll take as he will be with 4 other kids in the classroom max and the school is taking the precautions they can. We'll see.

30s and 40s are not even close to the temps that would warrant keeping kids inside. A few layers and a light jacket would work fine.

Marietta
Paulding
Gwinnett
Cherokee
and more

I’m not posting all the links again, btdt. See for yourself. My sister is just south of Atlanta, so I’m keeping a close eye on Georgia.

I live in Miami and we have had a mask requirement in public almost since the beginning.

I live in Marietta, Cobb is virtual only, they released a plan to start in-person but only if numbers go down. Gwinnett is the same. Only cherokee and paulding are currently open for in-person classes around Atlanta. APS is virtual only for at least the first 9 weeks. Stop spreading rumors.

You can’t seriously be debating this. Of course you don’t send her! Preschool is not that important and you obviously have other childcare (or a SAHP) since she only goes 4 half days.

What exactly is the danger to preschoolers? Daycares have been open this entire time. Little kids by and large are not affected by this.

No but the preschooler can infect her parents, siblings, grandparents, etc. She in a hotspot, not Vermont, where my answer would be different.

Sorry, but I fail to see how a preschooler in FL who gets infected would be any more likely to spread it to their family than a preschooler in VT.

Lol. The preschooler in Florida is much more likely to get infected in the first place with more cases.
