Here’s what happens: judgmental people like you give them the side-eye and the rest of us go on minding our own business.

Have you been to a beach in the last 10 years? A lot of people have tattoos. This isn’t Japan.

I do suspect that the group of people with tattoos doesn’t overlap a whole lot with the country club set. Probably by choice because country clubs are icky.

No. But as long as he gets it in a place that doesn't show in a short sleeve shirt and shorts, I'd grudgingly go along with it.

If I had a husband (thankfully my divorce is almost final, because I HATE being married) I would encourage him to do whatever makes him happy. I have a sleeve and my tattoo is one-of-a-kind. No one else on earth has one like it. It has deep meaning to me and is a memorial to someone I lost tragically. It was therapy. I can take a nap while being tattooed. There is no pain afterward (not in my experience, but I have a high tolerance for pain.)
I truly do not understand the aversion to tattoos on this forum. They are a form of self-expression. Art. My only rule for my kids is that they must be 18 before being inked. I have one son who has a couple of tats, and my 16 yr old daughter is planning to get one when she turns 18, in memory of a friend who recently committed suicide. To the OP, I think your husband should go ahead with it. Find a good tattoo artist (dude who did mine used to work for Marvel Comics.)

Are you a prison guard?

No. And don’t be so obnoxious.
I live a very middle class life. No one bats an eye when they interact with me.
Tattoos are very common now. I have a special one only my DW sees on a very special part of my body that she loves. That. Is the only unusual one I have.

Well, DCUM is weirdly conservative & judgmental on most topics.

What happened to my body, my choice? Let him make his own decisions. No one cares or notices except these crazy ladies on DCUm.

Eek, I personally do not like tattoos.

I think the body looks best if the entire skin surface is unmarked.
But this is just my very own, personal opinion on this topic so of course any response that I give will be biased.

My main beef w/tattoos is how bad they look later on when the person ages.
Ever see a sixty/seventy yr. old w/sagging skin + a tattoo??

Well you will in around 35 yrs.
And it will not be pretty!

I’m not a tattoo fan but I am only in control of my body. My DH got one several years ago (his favorite sports team) on his upper arm. He got a second one that represents our two children. Both can be covered up with short sleeves so not really a big deal. My 21 year old daughter has several (5 or 6). They are generally tasteful. She didn’t get them until she turned 18 and didn’t need my consent or permission. While I am not a fan, it was not a hill I wanted to die on and she is a good, studious, respectful kid without other vices (other than piercings which she also has had many of). I just worry about whether she will still be happy with the tattoos 10, 20, 30 years from now. But...it is her decision and her body.

I'd be fine with a small tattoo that has personal meaning but anything behind that I'd discourage.

I find it helpful when LMC, undereducated people label themselves as such. It helps me adjust my expectations.
