Is your pool allowing kids who can’t swim laps?

Did the swim team beat you up as a kid or something?

I feel sorry for anyone who has to share a pool with you.

I guess it helps when one of the health department supervisors is a neghboors and member

You should have seen how hard he laughed when we asked if his inspectors would be doing spot checks on community pools

We are in Phase 2. We are hoping free swim is allowed in Phase 3.

Phase two allows for more general “exercise and instruction.” Several pools I know (not mine) have interpreted this to mean parents can teach swimming skills to their children. It’s less restrictive than phase 1.

This is what ours is doing. But it's still just 3 family members to a lane. They won't allow 3 unrelated kids, for example, to play in a lane together.

The board put lots of language in the procedures about remaining distanced while lap swimming, and be sure you are teaching your kids. The reality is people float up and down the lanes chatting, kids get to play on the diving boards, and parents engage with their children in the shallow end. Every person has to do a health screening for covid symptoms to enter. Its making the best of a bad situation. I have zero COVID concerns with the way my pool is implementing Phase 2. We are much more distanced at the pool then if we went to the park or on a hiking trail.

The reality is that if you are in VA, this is all not allowed and I hope the health department shuts you down.

Had a blast at the pool today!

My wife and two kids had 1/2 of the shallow end reserved. We jumped off the side a bunch of times, threw the ball around and floated on the noodle we bought from home for a while. We also were showed my three year old how to float without floaties and practice his doggie paddle and my five year old was working on his side stroke.

It was great exercise for us all and very instructional for our kids.

That’s great. It was against an order from the governor. The fact that you all had a blast changes nothing.

How is what PP described against orders?

Family had a reserved area that I assume was 10’ away from others. Everyone was either exercising or instructing?

No one- even family members- can be less than 10’ from each other in a pool. A mom cannot be in the pool within 10’ of her own kid. Whether you believe it’s dumb or not doesn’t matter.

Yes. 12 families at a time for 90 min reserved spots. Pool sectioned into area. Only 3 family members in the pool at a time. It has to be “exercise”. Basically you can’t just stand there and chat. As long as you’re moving around you’re fine. You’re supposed to be 10’ apart from family members (which I find totally ridiculous) unless you are helping them swim.

If you’re in Virginia and don’t like these dumb rules, email the governor and your state rep. The woman in charge of making the pool related regulations has no experience, and really was focused on commercial pools, not private or community/social pools which is why the regs feel so bizarre.

I’m huge for safety, our family is still in a safer at home mode, but do believe that the way phase 2 is structured makes no sense.

Can you please read this back to yourself, take a deep breath, and then call a therapist.

Lol, I honestly hope this is a troll.

Because the thought of this person being real and a member of a pool makes me so sad for any other human being who would ever have to deal with them.

You're wrong. https://www.virginia.gov/coronavirus/forwardvirginia/faq/#857594

Instructors are allowed to have physical contact with Learn to Swim participants that have no swimming ability, and guardians or parents are allowed to hold/support the child during Learn to Swim lessons.

PP

Again, one of our members is a director in the county health department, half of the inspectors report to her.

If you think they are wasting their time raiding pools looking for parents who are less then 6 feet from their kids in their reserved area you are insane.

The person who wrote the state pool guidance admitted she doesn’t know how to swim and has never been to a pool before, her title before COVID was assistant program manager of Bedding and Upholstered Furniture.

Be smart, use common sense.

I mean honestly, a parent cannot be within 6 feet of their own kid at a outdoor pool??

Our pool is still lap swimming for kids 8+ only

Anonymous wrote:Our pool is opening but lap swim only. I was hoping our pool would allow families to reserve a lane at a time. In Delaware, we know a place that was limiting capacity and you have to make a reservation for 2 hours. I saw some out of state resorts giving you a choice of time slot to reserve pool time and chairs.

How is your local swim club or country club handling?

If they they are lap lanes then why should people who can't swimm laps be allowed? Buy a plastic pool and put in your back yard.
