Nobody is looting.

People are protesting peacefully, which people have a right to do.

Not when there is a curfew
Not when there is a pandemic

I’m glad we left DC.

We are all glad you left. Now work on making your state leave the union and we will be done with you.

Im not glad. Are you blindly rah rah about everything? Are you one of those boosters who wont allow anyone to improve your kids school etc. Its sad when people feel a place is untenable to live.

Yes when there is a curfew.
Yes when there is a pandemic.

Seriously, this is basic First Amendment stuff. You know, the part of the US Constitution that has said

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

since 1791.

Maybe, before you left DC, you should have spent some time outside the Newseum (before it closed), reading these words engraved on the building.

The Courts have upheld limits on constitutional rights during a pandemic. This is pretty basic.

I remember some protests during a pandemic, only a few weeks ago.

Yup. And no police riots on them.

The unwritten agreement seems to be that the curfew will be ignored, so long as the protests are peaceful. If looting or rioting starts up, the authorities can fall back upon their curfew authority to break up the crowd/send people home and start arresting.

This feels like the right compromise, in my view. I think it’s also of the utmost importance for peaceful protestors to confront and stop any rioting or looter behavior. Hooligans need to be stop and turned over to cops. There is power in numbers and you need to step up if you see something.

For example, these guys who confronted and turned over an agitator are heroes: https://www.reddit.com/r/PublicFreakout/comments/guaghc/protesters_hand_rioter_over_to_police/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

Just showing up isn’t enough. You need to take pro-active action to protect the message of

Last I checked, they weren’t destroying storefronts and burning cop cars. Geez. The looting is unacceptable. It’s just beyond ridiculous to defend it. And in allowing it to happen, we’ve undermined gun control efforts for at least a decade. Everyone is arming themselves against looters. Check out gun mfr stocks.

What the president did with the peaceful protestors was reprehensible. Bringing in the military to stop the looters was completely justified and greatly appreciated. That’s the dilemma with this president, you never know what you’re going to get.

I agree. The curfew is a tool to make it easier to deal with looting and vandalism. It should not be strictly enforced against people exercising their constitutional right to protest.

It’s always hard to tell what you’ll get with this president: fascism, or criminality, or corruption, or treason, or simply soft-brained incompetence.

Pandemic response was incompetence.
Saudi arms deal was corruption.
Sending in military police unwanted by the other 50 states was fascism.
Getting bribed at his hotel by foreign govts and corporations was criminality.
Encouraging Putin to attack America was (is) treason.

Always hard to tell.

I’m no trump lover, but DC was descending into total anarchy. If the mayor doesn’t want federal involvement, she should stop the looting! She was standing by as the capital of our country got destroyed by looters, for goodness sake.

Looters are headed to Georgetown. The BID just sent an email. So sad that the mayor is allowing the remaining stores - many of which are not chains - be destroyed.

“Dear Georgetown BID Members,

MPD just informed us that a large group of protestors, accompanied by police, is headed into Georgetown.
