Neighbor being snarky or am I being sensitive?

Also make sure your cats stay on your own property. I don't blame her for being unfriendly if you let your cats roam off your land.

Paleeze. I paid 5k for my cats and I would never let them outside!

OP here. I will write her an apology note today. I’ve realized she’s just not a warm and fuzzy person but that has nothing to do with her being rude, it’s just her personality. I’m more of a big smile how are you Kind of person. I was being stupid and definitely took it the wrong way. Ty everyone for making see the light.

Here's my take. It seems like she was just trying to have a light, neighborly chat.

What's in the box? Baking supplies, oooh what are you baking? Trampoline...oooh fun! Books, what are you reading? Cleaning supplies, ahhh crazy times right neighbor? Litter, no fun.

Yes I realize this now. But she asked this as she was leaving so she wasn’t attempting to have a neighborly chat. I think that’s why I got annoyed. Maybe if she was coming home and came up to me and asked I would’ve responded differently. Because I would’ve felt she was being friendly and wanted to chat.

That's nice of you to take the effort to remedy it, OP.

It’s not fun to change kitty litter. Get a grip.

+1. I would have assumed that's what she meant. Dealing with cat litter is the opposite of fun. I have cats and dogs.

Compared to walking a dog and picking up dog s*** even when it’s raining or cold. Not being able to sleep in ever! Hmmmmm that’s a big no from me. Live in condo btw.
Yes, but the neighbor wasn't saying, gee, picking up dog poop is so much better than cleaning up cat poop - go dogs! She was just expressing that it's never fun to clean up after any animal after it poops. OP, you are very sensitive and jumped to conclusions about this. Is there something else bothering you?

Ok, I understand your reaction better. Are you sure she acted that way because she's a snob? Sometimes it's because people are socially awkward. Either way, I'd let this roll off your back. Sounds like there is something wrong with your neighbor - whether snobbishness or social awkwardness - but you're taking it personally.

Yeah, glad I read through everything and got to this point. I can see more now why you reacted that way. You might have said something like "that can't be fun" but you would have said it in a tone of commiseration and joked about it. Sounds like your neighbor is bad at those social cues that are meant to put people at ease.

She was asking if you got something cool in the mail and it was something utilitarian. She made a completely innocuous question and you flipped out. You are both too sensitive and too aggressive, but don't worry because she will likely not speak to you anymore.

OP here. Oh well it would’ve gone from 20 words a year to zero. We’re moving anyway so no biggie.

Good news for her.

Op, if you choose to make this a big deal, it says more about you than her.
