Do we know if teachers will write 4th quarter report card comments?

DCPS Teacher: In a Staff Meeting I was in on Friday, here is what the District Offices per the Mayor told us...

1. Students receive 50% for all Assignments and 50% for Participation. (Definition of Participation was unclear)

2. Students CAN fail if they do not meet traditional grading policy guidelines.

3. Distance Learning Summer School is being developed for students who do not meet criteria.

I’d like to give more, but by the end of our meeting, there were more questions than answers.

Interesting- I got out of the grading policy that they can't fail- given that for every regular credit assignment there has to be an equally weighted extra credit assignment. And kids can't be penalized for not submitting work.

Maybe previous posted meant they can fail the class depending on their performance in terms 1-3, but they can’t fail the term. It is either a Pass or a “no mark”.

That makes sense, thanks!

They can’t be penalized for missing assignments. They can’t receive poor grades on work they’ve submitted.

What’s the purpose of attempting anything substantive?

There have to be an equal number of credit and extra credit assignments. Do they have to be weighted the same in Aspen?

No Assessments

50% participation
50% practice and application

There isn't outside of an innate love of learning. Which after doing distance learning for this long even some of those kids are starting to check out.

The teachers will work harder trying to figure out grade calculations than the students have to on assignments. Just make it Pass/Fail and let Aspen calculate the grade. This is ridiculous.

Teachers and students end in 5/29, yet students can submit work at any time during the advisory.

How does that even make sense?

It doesn't. It's coming from DCPS admin.

Yes

According to what source? Equal number doesn't have to mean equal weight.
