40 out of 80 or so went so went to Yale, Harvard, Chicago, Princeton, Columbia and Penn last year. 7 alone went to Yale. Sorry, so wrong.

This is a bold face lie! Don't believe the hype.

Don’t know about 40/80, but the top 25% at STA get into Ivies, Stanford, MIT. The next 25% go to SLACs, UCB, UCLA, UVA. The bottom 59% go to strong schools - think Top 50 — but not necessarily the most competitive schools.

The last several years, the top 25% at STA and NCS have done better at college placement than the top 25% at Sidwell or GDS. some will argue that this is due to a legacy and wealth factor, but those are also present at GDS and Sidwell.

The number one school top STA boys feed into is University of Chicago, 38 in the past five years to be exact. That is about 7 students per year and is the number one school for STA grads by more than double of any other school.

The bottom 60% do not attend top 50 schools, sorry. They attend top 150 or less. Think University of Maryland, American University, Miami University, Elon, Wofford College, Indiana University, College of Wooster, Hillsdale College, Montgomery College, Penn State, St. John's College, College of Charleston, Catholic University, GW University, Auburn University, Drew University, University of Colorado Boulder, Sewanee: University of the South, Southern Methodist, University of Vermont, and St. Mary's College of Maryland just to name a few attended by STA grads. There is a big difference between the top students who attend great colleges and the remaining majority (60%) who attend very average colleges. STA may get to hand select their students, but they don't all end up at top universities.

Montgomery College???

Yes, Montgomery College. Some kids may need a two year junior college to figure things out.

Remember a lot of the STA kids get a significant leg up because they are the grandson of senator so and so. And still the college placement is not stellar. If you’re UMC, you’ll do just as well at a good public school. You won’t be competing for the Harvard spot with someone like Al Gore VII

Actually, in our experience, the reverse is true.

That is, the people in the college counselling office are generally appalled when someone "jumps the line" whether that's because of "connections", the college being interested in the celebrity son or grandson, or even Athletics. The counselors know this happens every year, but they have little power to prevent it.

They are the ones that have to try and explain to the parents of the smart, hard-working kid, who didn't get into his or her school of choice, how weaker students were accepted.

College counselors would much prefer a more orderly, predictable college admissions process in which applicants are judged on a more objective basis.

That’s what they tell the poor hardworking average son of anonymous surgeon or accountant.
Even if that were true, that’s the problem with a place like STA. Harvard and Yale are only going to accept one or two each from the STA class. Whether through the bias of the college counseling or the college admissions office, that spot will probably go to the scion of the celebrity.

The U Chicago pipeline no longer exists for STA.

This raises the ongoing question about where a smart, but not kid-of-the-famous should go to school, for college purposes.

And where do legacies fit in? There are kids at sta, ncs, and sidwell, for instance, who aren't kids of senators, but they're legacies nonetheless. Many of them are really bright, as you might expect. Do they get shoved aside too? Or so the schools help them because their legacy status helps the school get another admit?

I think it’s an issue that seems to be getting worse and worse. Was Malia Obama the smartest person at Sidwell?

STA's admissions book also reports Indiana University at Bloomington as a "college enrolling the most students in the past 5 years". Also listed is the University of Miami. Nothing wrong with these schools, just not top 25 or even top 50 and included in the group of attended by most STA students. Tulane, ranked 40th by USNWR, is the third most popular school attended by STA grads (13 grads went in the past 5 years). Again, nothing wrong with these schools but certainly not top 25 or even top 50 (besides Tulane). Just showing that going to STA does not guarantee top college admissions as some have tried to claim. Everyone focuses on the top schools and don't pay attention to the numbers of students who attend lesser schools, even though it is the majority.

Jeebus - Indiana University after paying $$600000 if you went from Beauvoir thru STA? You could easily do that from Wilson

There is a poster on here who jumps on every STA post and claims some ridiculously inflated STA college stats. They're like a bee to honey; they must have a STA college post alert on their phone.

Per STA's OWN website graduates from the past 5 years attended the following schools: (list below) There are plenty of good schools but AT LEAST 50% are schools under the top 50.

I'm an NCS parent and know the STA crowd well. The kids I know going to Princeton and Harvard this year are 1)legacy 2)children of VIPs.

If you think you are going to send your kid to STA (or NCS) and they're going to just march off to an Ivy league school or similar you are seriously deluded.

Having seen this play out for a few years you are far better off sending your kid to a good public if you're not a VIP.

Go to the handbook and you will see the number of students that went to each college from 2014 to 2018. That would give you much better statistics.

My kids went to Beauvoir and the celebrity worship and favoritism starts from day one from the HOS to the snooty secretaries at the front desk. Going there if you are not a VIP or a committed social climber is an exercise in masochism. I’m sure it continues vigorously through NCS and STA.

I am an admissions officer in the close - we o my accept perfect children from perfect families. Period. Preferably children whose parents were both virgins when they got married (directly out of HYP), have family money so that they can pay full tuition and work at a low paying/ high prestige job, and whose children are “magical” or exhibit extreme Innocent childhood joy at least 80% of the time. We have a zero tolerance policy for non-joyful children. Hard line.
Our acceptance rate hovers somewhere between zero and one percent. If no perfect children apply, we generate members of the class from the special pod of “perfection” larva we have growing in the basement of the cathedral.

Frankly, virtually none of you will ever be good enough for admission to our school. We don’t need any of you lesser mortals to sully our pool of genetically superior product.

So according to those stats "directly from the Handbook" STA is sending 2/85 kids a year to Harvard and 2/85 to Yale and about 1.5/85 to Princeton.

I know one of the Princeton admits this year and one of the Harvard. Both are legacy and their parents are mega-wealthy.

So that leaves at best 1/85 spots at STA for HYP.

Don't pay $50K a year because you think it will in any way raise your child's college admissions chances.
