Hospitals no longer allowing partners or support people

What are you talking about? This is happening because we're in the middle of a global pandemic. Are you even pregnant?

All alone with an OB on Twilight sleep and a strap to bite down on and no recollection thereafter is my dream delivery, but they won't do it these days...

30 to 40 years ago was 1990-1980 , men most certainly in the delivery room.

50 + years ago maybe not, but women were also drugged to the high heavens, tied to beds etc.

Right? I would prefer to go full Betty Draper.

They probably will. It's very monkey see monkey do these days. I'd prepare yourself emotionally for that possibility.

People are already scared to go because of Corona.

Now this. I can see birthing at home becoming very attractive.

We are supposed to labor and deliver alone.

This just sucks in so many ways.

This is a good thing.

So so thankful I’m not pregnant right now. I worry for all of my friends due this summer.

And prior to that, they generally delivered at home with the support of female family members.

And I can see homebirths becoming very popular again.

So drugged out that you couldn't hold your baby?

I get no doulas or a team of family, but why can't they have a single support person? They could test this person before hand and require they stay at the hospital no back and forth to home.

Are you kidding? Tests take days to get results and we don’t even have enough for the people who are sick.

What a horrible time to be pregnant.

I’d rather have a home birth then labor and recover alone and risk catching covid at the hospital.

And the homebirth midwives will be seeing multiple patients over time, going into multiple homes where there is no exclusion of other children, some of whom will have been going on playdates. So.

Safest is a hospital with rigid entrance screening, minimal to no extra people from the community, separation completely (different part of hospital, different entrance) of non-COVID patients, and staff using consistent and clear sanitizing procedures.
