How strict are you on social distancing?

Dh has to go to physically work. We do social distancing so no play dates, but we do go outside daily - trails, walks around the neighborhood, and of course playing in the backyard. Dh also passes by grocery store though around 1 or 2 per week.

Otherwise, we do once a week grocery shopping and one outside expedition a day where we don’t get within 6 feet of people (or within about 20 really). Nanny is socially distancing except for her boyfriend who also has to work. It is what it is; if your family member is an essential worker, there’s only so much you can do.

Ok, so you are doing basically nothing.

My DH is an ER doc. My nanny’s boyfriend is a doctor in a specialty that deals with mostly geriatric patients. Would you prefer that they not go in? Otherwise, we get groceries once a week and go outside w/ strict social distancing in place. What exactly are we doing wrong?

You could not have the nanny come.

Honestly, her boyfriend and your DH are such germ magnets that there is zero point in the rest of you bothering with any special efforts.

There’s really no point in limiting yourselves if you are sending a small child to daycare.

Agree.

Disagree. Of course there is a point for them to limit themselves. The chances of getting corona would still be smaller than with no precautions at all, and May be they will get the corona, but the number of people they’ll give it to will still be less than if they do not limit themselves, that number would be much larger.

Nothing anyone does is germier than sending a child to daycare.

We are limiting ourselves to our home and the home where our nanny share is hosted. Occasional trips to the grocery store as needed (one a week).

Grocery store 1x a week (but I stocked up last week so we won't have to go for about 3 weeks at this point) Walks outside in the neighborhood.

Twice a week we're going to a state park with hiking trails and very few people. It's easy to maintain distance from what few people are actually there. My kids are active and the lack of a higher-intensity exercise makes them crazy.

Our interactions with others are:

kids-- our house and the house where our nanny share is hosted
me/DH-- home and grocery store (once per week max)

Idiocy. Every single precaution matters. You have no idea who might be contagious. It could be no one a day care but your one cleaning lady or bartender.

Please don’t pay any attention to that poster, PP. she’s a well-known troll who’s always on the nanny forums.

I work at a health department so go in every day. They screen at the entry and I wash hands and hand sanitize
and don’t touch my face (I’ve gotten really good at it). Kids play with next door neighbors. DH works at home. We are going to hire a babysitter.

We are very strict. Our kids only play in the yard or we take walks around our very quiet neighborhood. Grocery shop twice a week and I sanitize the cart handle.

There are more surfaces and people in the grocery store. Delivery people fill the orders when the store is empty. Delivery is less contact with others.

They most certainly do not fill all orders when the store is empty. There are a ton of Instacart shoppers at my local Wegman’s when I’m there.
