Any southern schools?

Did Texas not count?

Does it ever?

Texas is its own country.

UT Austin hasn't canceled any tours as of yet. We're scheduled to attend an admitted student tour during our spring break. We've booked flights and hotel and DC hasn't visited the campus, so I really hope it doesn't get canceled. It's one of DC's top choices. I think we'll still go even if it gets canceled; a friend has connected us with a couple of current students who happen to be in DC's major and they will show us around.

Good luck to everyone deciding - I for one will be happy when all decisions are in over the next couple of weeks and DC finally makes the big choice!

Is your kid going in fall 2020? Or later.

If later, wait until things are more clear. If fall 2020, I'd have your child make a decision without going. There won't be a lot to see anyway if campuses are a ghost town, and if the campus doesn't have cases you really shouldn't be travelling from the DMV where the virus is spreading. You do not have to be symptomatic to be carrying the virus, and capable of spreading it.

Does anyone think this is excessive?

Couldn't we begin with "please do not come on the tour if you are sick"?

The problem is you don't have to be sick to spread the disease. The minister in Georgetown didn't have symptoms when he was giving communion, but had the virus.

How many people will follow this advice - see this for an example of selfish stupidity. https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/coronavirus-patient-st-louis-family-breaks-self-quarantine-father-daughter-dance-schools-closed/?__twitter_impression=true&fbclid=IwAR2qQ3KYJiNsflosRHWwwU9BFzhcMfn-WWKhevVBGcVd18XbLH5U_QdVtNc

the reality is that if we had an adequate number of tests, we would most likely learn this is far more widespread than we realize, probably like the flu. then we would have more accurate data regarding transmissability. in other words, we don't have a great denominator yet.

I hope you are right!

I know this is not ideal but we’ve used Google maps to get an idea of what the campus and surrounding area is like. And there are you tube tour videos available for many schools. Again not ideal, but an option.

There are a thousand youtube videos of any college campus. Google maps can be immensely helpful. Many kids don't have the luxury of campus visits; this is not terrible.

Tours are the least of the colleges' concerns now that several are moving to online classes for some period of time. For those campuses actually closing (Harvard, Amherst), this closure will turn out to be a significant ordeal for current students.

Instagram is a great resource too

+1 for the two posts above. No one NEEDS to physically step foot on a campus to research it. Plenty of students without means make the college decision every year without traveling.
