Well if Soccer IQ is the issue, that's a lot different from technical ability and a lot harder to solve. Perhaps in a few generations, assuming the culture evolves.

We are not in NOVA but the scenario you described if occurred on our team our center back would get benched if they did that regularly - even at younger ECNL teams.

Yes, since this board is for the Nova area, I'm talking about the Nova area. I didn't mean every single DA/ECNl club all over the continental US. I meant here. For all of it. We should demand better from our coaches. There's nothing wrong with the gene pool that these girls can't do better. They can. But not if coaches don't correct and expect better.

And it's not unique to any one team. These scenarios, I see them in our competition too. Some have faster girls or slower girls, physical or less physical but the technical issues are a problem.

It's both. Soccer IQ is an issue, but if a player lacks technical skill, it should be addressed.

And it's not unique to any one team. These scenarios, I see them in our competition too. Some have faster girls or slower girls, physical or less physical but the technical issues are a problem.

It's a diluted market; lots of options. You are being too hard on the kids to be blunt. If they don't have it, they don't. That means they aren't putting in what it takes. Reduce the elite options back down to 3-4 for the area and you solve the problem of some of the kids not being at the level of the top group.

YES. Completely agree. Too many leagues claiming to be "elite" and it's confusing parents and diluting talent in NOVA...

Actually, it's fairly clear how the leagues grade out:
Boys:
- DA
- ECNL
- CCL1 / EDP
- VPL / CCL2
- NCSL
- ODSL

Sure there are overlaps where high level teams from a lower league will beat low level teams from a higher league, but basically the leagues grade out very clearly.

I will bite. Have an 06 who may look elsewhere but not sure we want to. Pros of leaving are a fresh start and opportunity to play desired position. Currently child only gets good playing time at a less desirable position. Nice to have fresh club give input. Negatives are starting over with a new club and will the social aspect be as good? Hope Metro United listens to input on mixed age groups because the social component is strong with all the traveling. Had to be a good thing or kids lose interest. No sure if grass is always greener. Not sure child wants to put themselves out there in case they stay and maybe looking could get you into trouble.

You should always take the playing time.

While the social aspect is important I have found that most kids at a DA or ECNL level simply want to play with committed players. They are there primarily for the soccer and while the friendships certainly happen over time the reality is that they are not there for the friends but the soccer.

You will not get choice of position in ECNL/DA unless your kid is exceptional. Coach will decide the ideal position for your child based on his/her view and will play them there. You/player can provide input, but don't expect to play the position DD wants. Can't comment on Metro United specifically, but this is true in general.
