Princess party for kid who doesn’t like princesses

Anonymous
My favorite Leia is Hoth Leia. Full body snowsuit, twirly hair.

OP, let her wear what she likes, and help her with a backstory if she wants one.

She is a princess in a Disney movie. But she is not an "official" Disney Princess (yes, there is a difference but I don't claim to understand it). The 12 "official" princesses are Belle, Rapunzel, Ariel, Tiana, Moana, Cinderella, Aurora, Snow White, Merida, Pocahontas, Jasmine and Mulan.

Princess Leia is NOT a Disney Princess. Nice try though.

I mean, she was a princess, and Star Wars is owned by Disney....

There are official and unofficial princesses? Weird.

Anyway, you guys, Elsa is a queen.

Our kids attend a pricey preschool. I bet we are the only family without any princess dresses laying around.

I guess that's why several people here have mentioned going to dress up parties. We're in the suburbs in a moderately priced preschool and none of my kids' friends have ever requested any sort of attire.

We were invited to a dress up party that was Star wars themed. I tried to talk my daughter into wearing a princess Leia style outfit but she decided she wanted to dress up as Mary Poppins and a classmate of hers dressed up as Belle. Nobody seemed to care that the kids weren't dressed up with the right theme.

At the end of the movie. She's a princess at the beginning.

what about wonder woman? She is a princess (Princess Diana). My DD was wonder woman for halloween at that age. So cute!

How about a police officer costume a la Kindergarten Cop?

A photo/ story of that could probably go viral.

Please don't force her to wear a dress or other princess paraphernalia if she doesn't want to. It's a party and she should be comfortable (physically and mentally) in what she's wearing!

DD, now 7, has never liked Princesses or dresses. (Not for lack of opportunity - we finally just gave away the dress up box full of princess stuff) She was invited to a tea party in preschool and encouraged to wear a fancy/dressup dress and had a costume jewelry. DD wanted none of it. She showed up in a sparkly sweater and pants and had a wonderful time and no one cared.

If she wants to be Princess Leia, awesome. If she wants to wear a cape or tiara, awesome. If she wants to wear a party sweater and pants, go for it.

One girl came dressed in a NASA costume and one girl came in a pirate costume. And some kids didn't dress up at all. Absolutely no one cared. Let your daughter wear whatever she wants.
+1. We had a big bin of dress up clothes at my daughter's party and kids changed dresses and accessories often. I think everyone tried on a princess dress at least once, but there were lots of options and trading. No big deal.

I would let her wear something dress up but not force the Princess issue, she can be a dinosuar if she wants to.
I would roleplay with her a little but with how to respond to the questions about why she isnt a Princess so she feels empowered in her choices.
