They do not give athletic scholarships. The “currency” they have is a slot for admissions. Anyone who says they got athletic scholarships at an Ivy is lying. |

[/quote] No one disagrees that recruited athletes have a huge admissions advantage. But that fact is completely unrelated to the type of $$ they receive for athletics, if any. Ivy league athletes receive no athletic (or merit) money and rich families receive no financial aid money at Ivy League schools. |

| Unless you can go pro in a money sport, it doesn't make financial sense. The difference between taking a D1 athletic scholarship and financial aid at an Ivy is that you can quit sports at an Ivy with no consequences once you're admitted. So a low/moderate income student could decide not to play football before ever suiting up and receive the same no-loan, full need financial aid for four years as if they played. At a D1, your athletic scholarship gets yanked if you quit or get hurt and you'd probably not be eligible for any financial aid besides loans and Pell grants. |
