Ideally, yes. Get most of the water off IN the shower. Towel down on the mat. Only then should you leave the bathroom to go elsewhere.

This is what I do too. Nice and warm in the shower to dry off, why step out and be chilly while I'm drying off?

I keep trying to explain this to my husband. 20 years of marriage and he still doesn't get it.

You get the mat wet. You turn it over before you leave the room.

It's not that wet. Get mats that are reversible. But that's for PP. For op, idk, maybe recarpet every few years. If you know where he always walks, just avoid that area. Yeah, he shouldn't, but he does, so ... not worth a divorce.
