It is rude and possibly illegal (voice calls are banned in flight). Agreed with PP who said that long conversations in general in public are rude. Also, there is no guarantee that there will be network connectivity on the plane--it may be out of order or the plane may be swapped with one without the capability.
If the meeting is so important, then re-schedule the trip. If not, tell your boss that you will be unavailable for X number of hours. |
meanwhile as I sit here on AA unable to log into a zoom Meeting to which I would just be listening on my ear buds, I can over hear the flight attendants shout to each other about their dates last night. Seems to be a conflicting policy of rudeness |

It would be nice if you one at least get the audio to listen in (usually slides can be downloaded in advance). I don't think there is a straightforward way to do that, though.
It would be very rude to try to actively participate in a meeting, yes. |
| OMG so rude. Like the parents who have FaceTime video calls in the gymnastics waiting area. |
| Not as annoying as loud talkers, screaming kids, and people who take up more than their share of the space. |
|
Lol, so many people here just don't understand what it means to be in a fast paced competitive environment. Sometimes you need to meet and be able to travel to get things done by a deadline, or when dealing with disaster recovery.
When you have $300,000 on the line, you don't mind being rude! |
If you have no need to speak in the meeting as the OP stated, you are not key to nailing this deal. Just an unknown in the background. |
Do you think that’s a lot of money for a business or gov’t agency? |
Be…cause that is not what the OP’s question is about? I don’t understand why this rude, yet no one calls out the number of dumb asses who clip their toenails in public. |
| Can you be in the call but only participate via the chat function? |
| I love how everyone is bothered by the question. Sounds like some of you need some emotional intelligence and to get over it. Rude! 🤣. So a baby crying is also rude. Or you having a great chat with someone next to you. I say if it did work. Let people live and you mind your business. It is called grace and understanding. Your annoyance is a sympathetic nervous respond due to lack of control. So...... |
Because everyone on the plane is a captive audience and packed in tightly? |
I love how you're so stupid that you responded to a question from 2019. Sounds like you need some actual intelligence. Clearly also manners and the ability to determine equivalencies. Moron. |
| If you are listening off camera and type into the chat vs. talking I actually think thats fine. If you're going to talk then definitely do not do it. |
They absolutely do call them out. It's horribly rude. And it must be getting pretty prevalent, because the last plane I was on, there was an announcement (in a justifiably grumpy tone) about how there was to be no zooming, FaceTiming, or similar, and that if you didn't wear headphones for your music or video, they would ask you to turn off your device. Even if no one says anything, everyone hates you for doing these things. |
