He's the absolute ruler of one of the richest countries in the world. Not sure what anyone could do. She's lucky she got away and managed to squirrel away so much money.

Let's also be perfectly clear that all of this was all well known to Haya when they married. You have to ask yourself why a seemingly progressive woman marries a guy 25 years her senior who already has other wives and countless children, and has no intention of divorcing them. Haya is not a full Arab but as a shami, she certainly knew the way of the Gulfies, and the way they run their houses and countries. But no, Haya thought she could be the fabulous one, the wife who gets to wear regular dresses and mingle with the international jetset while the Emirati wives stay at home. I wonder what her reasons were - like twenty billion of them.

She fled after he divorced her.

Again - what part of how things are done in the Gulf was a surprise to her?

Lie down with dogs, get fleas.

It still is pretty outrageous that other countries are assisting the sheikh in kidnapping his adult daughters so that he can keep them in drugged in captivity in Dubai. It’s horrifying that no one can do anything to help those poor women. The story of Princess Latifa is absolutely heartbreaking.

Eh? Both of Haya’s parents (King Hussein and Queen Alia) were Arab.

If he divorced her first before she left, why did she file for divorce when she got to London?

I don't consider the Shami/Levanti stock full Arabs, their mentality is much different. Gulfies are the real Arabs and they are very different from the Shamis. And if anyone tells you Haya doesn't know how a powerful man from the Gulf will run his family, they are either hopelessly naive or lying. She knew exactly what she signed up for. She just miscalculated.

Sharia divorce is different from legal divorce.

Wow, so now that I'm reading up on this guy. His first wife is his first cousin and he married her when she was 17 and he was 29. They have 12 children together. And it seems they are still married?

Of course, silly. He has at least 2 other wives that he's been married to forever. Haya married a guy with two other wives. Her shocked bambi routine is funny. Maktoum seems like a guy who just doesn't like to divorce if there are no troubles.

I think the articles linked above still say that he divorced her after she left. Not before.

Never mind, apparently I can’t read. And now I see why it make sense she has the 40M.

Her win doesn’t mean anything. If he wants her back or the children back, he will take them. No one will stop him and there will be no way to force their return.

I don't agree with that at all.

Have you not read what he’s done this far? Why do you think he would not be able to get to her?

DP - I hope she has good bodyguards.

Wonder why he hasn't gone after her or the kids by now. I'm surprised he allowed the ruling to go public or waited for it to be determined before he took action. Now how can he get the kids without outing himself as a complete criminal and abuser?

Come on! We’ve all made mistakes in people and in thinking it’s going to be different for us.

Don’t judge so harshly. This woman had balls to run away why most just stay with their tyrants.

I'm a grown a@@ woman, I'm not "silly". But thanks for your response.
