What are the top 03 teams?

The girl in question was 100% recruited by multiple schools after she suited up with Richmond. I caution against believing anything you hear about offers, scholarships, money, etc. because most people keep that under wraps. Who wants to let your soon to be college coach know you’re out there flapping your gums about their offer?

She left VDA when they switched from DA to ECNL and VDA got upset with her (or her parents probably) when they started looking at other options trying to stop the bleeding after one of their other top players went to BRYC immediately. Richmond has girls from Charlottesville, Williamsburg, and Jordan Caniff actually lived in Maryland as do a few others in the club. So far no one is going Richmond from NOVA - plenty of other options up there but Richmond consistently produces strong teams and gets their girls recruited to top soccer programs.

If you look at the standings every age group has a different team in first place in the ECNL Mid Atlantic.

To be fair, there are some Richmond and Williamsburg girls going to Nova. I even heard of Charlottesville and some other outliers. Some legitimately prefer DA over ECNL (not to argue good or bad. It's their preference. Maybe they don't like their high school teams), and Richmond isn't all things to all people.

It's funny to hear folks giving RU credit for developing players and teams. They're decent at it for sure, but the primary reason they are as strong as they are is geography. There is a greater volume of elite players in NoVA, it's just that they're all spread across 5-6 clubs vs one in Richmond.

They've beaten DC United DA's team twice this season, as well as knocked off a number of other MLS academy teams this season (e.g., NE Revolution). However, because this BSC team has not played club teams, it's difficult to compare them against that pool.

Girls teams. Thanks though, Bethesda dad.

Says you. The title of the thread is best 03 teams, not best 03 girls teams.

Bethesda is excellent, and I find DC United underwhelming as an MLS Academy. What keeps them going is the prospect of a pro connection.

Bethesda boys 03 is excellent? Are you talking about DA team? They are good, the rest are average. Not even top 10 in the area if you include DA.

Yeah, I meant the DA team.

Of course he meant the DA team, because this thread is about the top 03 teams - not B teams.

I'd put Baltimore Armour's 03 DA above Bethesda's right now, but it's true both are better than DC. The only asterisk to that is that DC has a lot of their 03s playing up with the 19s or even on the USL team. Then again, they brought all those guys with them to the GA Cup and it didn't seem to make much difference.

VDA's 03s are a step below the other three, and are probably at about the same level as Baltimore Celtic, McLean, Loudoun, and BRYC.

BRYC? Boys? Interesting. I did think they were better off as an ECNL when they were playing the Northern teams.

the 03 boys age group is interesting for sure as the local ECNL teams are very competitive with all of the DAs. unique to the age group though as the other age groups have much stronger DA teams than ecnl teams.

I don’t understand why a Fredericksburg parent would drive their kid to Richmond when VDA (as an example) is so close. Why don’t people play at the closest club?

Well, I heard that “commuter” got a bunch of offers and committed to WVU. Bruner must be doing something right if “return-on-commute” means a scholarship to a Power 5 program.

The way you keep excessively lathering him with praise, I'd think he were paying you if it weren't that you keep misspelling his name, the girl was a great player long before Brunner ever got involved and she got that WVU look by getting in a summer showcase just before she had ever joined the 03s. I will say yes, Brunner has good connections with college coaches. That's true, although the way I hear it, she got the offer but not a scholarship. She was at VDA prior to Richmond, but there was some sort of an issue between her parents and the leadership. That's why they left.

Seems like the VDA “leadership” let one off the line. Richmond hasn’t lost any. VDA has lost many.

Actually, the “leadership” at VDA let 3 off the line on the 03s. When they secretly announced their intent to leave the DA before end of first year - three girls left that had over 30 goals between them. First one went to BRYC 03s (currently in 2nd in Mid Atlantic after challenging in Nationals last year); second one (the commuter) went to Richmond (currently in first in Mid Atlantic and undefeated) and third went to FCV and is lead scorer on team (currently FCV is first in division in DA).

True story.

So, VDA let three of their top 03 scorers go and now they’ve won only one game - but the three teams that those stupid parents are driving 6 days a week are making FCV, BRYC and Richmond lead the DA, ECNL? I mean if one kid leaves - that’s what happens. VDA needs to reflect a bit on better decision making off the field.

Canniff lived in Maryland and commuted to Richmond. It’s true that the DA told her to go to Washington Spirit if she wanted to make Nationsl Team roster.

Plenty of players stayed in the ECNL and continued to make rosters. She was already national team for years before that. There was no falling out with Richmond, but moving to the DA made sense for her.
