Elrich bans blue lives matter displays

I’m not Police. So I can say what I want. However, in this era of demanding instant response to everything — nobody gives them any time. It’s a bureaucracy like any other. So Elrich speaks first, and inartfully at that.

No, the police spoke first. And inartfully.

Shameful.

Yes, it was shameful. The police should never have put up that tweet showing the wood-worked flag-looking thing. At the very least, they should have taken the tweet down after they heard from the community. For the police to be able to do their job effectively, the community needs to trust the police. The flag-looking thing just encouraged distrust.

Why?

Because while the originators of the blue-line flag did not intend it as a symbol of white supremacy, white supremacists use it as a symbol of white supremacy.

So, every time white supremacists co-opt a symbol and use it as theirs, we are going to ban it? Or, not recognize it? Like the Betsy Ross flag?
So, if white supremacists start using rainbow symbols, are we going to do away with that? Of, if they start using pink pussy hats, are we doing away with those?

The thin blue line flag is nothing more than a flag recognizing the lives of police officers who, when they leave their houses for work, are never quite sure if they will return to their homes and their families.
Stop allowing hate groups to have more power than they should have.

Elrich is an idiot. I can't believe how crazy his views are.

He needs to go.

There's that defensive reaction.

Police: tweet a picture with a symbol that white supremacists use. [This was a mistake in the first place, and whoever is in charge of their social media should have realized this.]
Public: what are you doing, white supremacists use that symbol!
Police: no, you're wrong.
Elrich: don't use that symbol.
FOP: Elrich hates the police!
Governor: Elrich hates the police, but I love the police!

I mean, really.

You're reminding me of my parents, who are in their 80s, complaining that when they use the word "gay" to mean "happy," people misunderstand.

And, that was the original meaning of gay. And queer meant "odd."
Have it your way. Give these hate groups the power they are craving. Pretty soon every symbol we know will be banned.

Yes, it was. But now it isn't. It's not having it my way, it just is. That's the reality. The police have to deal with the reality as it is, not as they might wish it to be.

And no, not every symbol is going to be banned.

So I guess you’ll be using a swastika then?

+1, it's just so embarrassing. He's like a caricature of a progressive.

The police and police supporters should stop desecrating the US flag.

And if you want to desecrate it with that thin blue line, so so at your house or car, not on public property. Same goes for the fireman flag, and whatever other bizarre flag.

The swastika has been around for millennia.

When you need the public trust in order to do your job properly, but some of the public already distrusts you, and then you do something that increases public distrust, which should you do?

A. Listen and apologize
B. Tell the distrusting public that they're ignorant and wrong, and you're right and a victim

MCP, unfortunately, chose option B. Now there's even more distrust.

Some of the people in the county distrust the police. But the police have over an 85% approval rating. The people who don’t like them are just louder and have the executive’s ear.

No doubt the offenders distrust the police. Tough luck.
