Elrich bans blue lives matter displays

The slogan is dumb. Black lives obviously refers to black people. There are no blue people. Perhaps if they had gone with "Cops' Lives Matter" it wouldn't have been embraced

It’s not a Blue Lives Matter flag just because you call it that. Marc Elrich’s own county website displayed a Montgomery County Police badge wrapped in a black mourning band with the thin blue line in it, to honor the loss of Officer Bomba just weeks ago.

It’s not. It’s a thin blue line flag. Nothing on the flag says Blue lives matter, and blue lives matter doesn’t own the thin blue line.

Blue lives matter is a specific group that wants the killing of police officers to be prosecuted under hate crime statutes. It was formed in 2014 in New York. The thin blue line has been around for 50 years at least.

At the corner of River and Whittier, there are often people from the church there holding Black Lives Matter signs and other liberal slogans. I can't remember if there is a sign up there at the moment, even though I pass it a couple of times daily. But that is private property, so o don't think I think affects Elrich.

It's the River Road Unitarian Universalist Church, and the sign is put up by their "racial justice" group within the church. It's on private property, so it has nothing to do with Elrich or the county government.

The same family who gave that flag also gave another flag (with a red instead of blue stripe, for fire/rescue) to a fire department near Quince Orchard high school. It remains up. I guess Elrich has no problem with that one.

I agree. I hate all these defaced flags.

Just fly the American flag or the Maryland flag with some sort of police banner.
Because this is how you get nationalist splinter groups.

It's one of the few Elrich decisions I agree with. They should not fly these flags anywhere on government property.
