Guiliani, Trump, and Ukraine

There is no evidence.

Journalists have been on the case for months. Believe me, if there had been something to find, they'd have found it. Getting an exclusive on such a well-known politician would be career-boosting for a journalist.

Then why all this uproar now? If there were nothing illegal done by Biden in Ukraine, would it be helpful for his campaign if Ukrainian government conduct investigation and confirms the same?

Oh you mean like conducting investigations of Trump and Kavanaugh? I mean, if they are innocent it would be helpful to actually confirm it.

Why do we need their names? These people just doing their jobs. These are the same people who arranged Kerry's And Gore’s and Clinton’s trips overseas when they were no longer holding any government positions. These are the same people who made several arrangements for Michelle O amas overseas trips this year.

We know who it is. It's Kurt Volker the special rep for Ukraine. A position that was invented by Trump and is not part of main State.

I just watched Biden’s response to the journalist question about his son on cnn. It was weird. The question was very simple- when was the last time he spoke with his son and if they discussed any foreign business deals? Why Biden couldn’t just answer that question. He could have said I spoke with my son yesterday/ this morning, and I e never discussed/ or I am up to date on his business matters. Not a big deal. Instead he began yelling at the reporter.

Yes that is weird. Not as weird as Trump extorting Ukraine for personal gain though.

It is an "uproar" now because Rudy and Trump are making false claims and journalists are amplifying it.

Ironically, the claim is once again projecting. They want people to focus on Ukranian influence in the 2016 election which would have been illegal, um just like Russian influence then and Ukrainian influence now.

The Ukranian government did that years ago.

Uh, no.

I am the Uh, no poster. I was referring to the idea that it was rank and file US State employees who made arrangements for Giuliani. I wanted to be clear.

If the client is not able to engage a lawyer (like a juvenile or an incompetent person), then some rule or some law or some tribunal has to appoint a lawyer to act for the client.

If Giuliani purports to be the lawyer for the individual person, that is one role. That is NOT the same tile as being the lawyer for the office. Giuliani is NOT the lawyer for the President; he is the lawyer for Trump. Unless Giuliani is duly authorized to engage with a foreign sovereign on behalf of his personal client and solely for a reason that is directly a part of that representation, then Giuliani has no authority at all. He was NOT engaged by the US Government, and Governmental engagement of external lawyers is very strictly governed by statute.

So I would agree no authority--but is this highly improper? (since this is all pro bono per his divorce proceedings, can he also pretend he wasn't representing Trump and that his contact had no connection whatsoever with Mr. Trump as either a private citizen, a candidate for the Presidency, or President?

There was the other poster who dropped in with the John Solomon version that the State Dept enlisted him.

I didn't want this to get hijacked by the whodunnit, but oh well.

Can you reference the purpose of trips by the other people? How would they compare to Rudy's?

Normal state department missions. Rudy was on a mission for Trump and/or Trump campaign, facilitated by the State Department.

Huge difference.

State is not allowed to facilitate a mission for the Campaign. That's a Hatch Act violation.

Trump recalled the Ambassador to Ukraine in May.

Sorry for the hijack, but I think the question is whether it’s appropriate for the president to ask (or even bribe) a foreign leader to investigate the president’s political opponent’s family.

Depends. Did he ask in an official capacity?

My guess is no.

But bo Biden’s bullsh&t was definitely nefarious, so looks like we’ll have an investigation soon!

Are you on drugs? Of course it's not appropriate. In fact, it's using his office for personal gain. It's bribery. It's extortion. It's abuse of power.

Just imagine it's 1940 and FDR tells Churchill, "Hey, Winston, I'd love to give you these old destroyers to fight the Nazis, but first can you ask Scotland Yard to start an investigation into my political opponent's son?"
