| Also, you can vote for presidents. Just not congressmen. I've met a few people who say they don't get any vote at all and that's not true. |
| Statehood is a farce. Retrocession to Md. |
| I firmly support DC statehood... but I would rather continue to be without representation than be part of Maryland. |
| DC statehood - as opposed to direct representation or retroceding to Maryland - would be a waste of money. You can just imagine how eager DC's mayor is to become a governor and to have dual state and municipal bureaucracies. Think of the patronage jobs for "the community." Think of the bill for the taxpayers. |
You haven't seen any pictures of the 51-star flag, evidently. |
I don't know why a small state needs a governor, senator, and representative either. Let alone two senators. |
Actually, the Presidential vote in DC is pretty much worthless since the same party always wins. The DEM candidate doesn't need my vote, because he/she will win; yet, a vote for someone from another party is futile. |
One can say the same thing about South Carolina, of course. |
Sure. We can vote for the president. But we do not have legislative representation. I understand the historical reasons why DC is federal territory rather than a state, but those historical reasons did not include 633,000 people living in that territory. That's 633,000 people who do not have congresspeople they can call when they are concerned about nationwide issues. Their voices are not represented during confirmation hearings for the Supreme Court. As a former DC government employee, I am not unsympathetic to the argument that DC is bureaucratically ill equipped to be a state and that there are myriad concerns about self-government. I think that it is possible to have those concerns while still believing that from an ethical standpoint, DC's lack of representation in one of the key branches of federal government is problematic. |

Send DC back to MD.
Problem solved. |
Problem solved, other than that 1. DC doesn't want it 2. MD doesn't want it |
| Let them move. |
Seriously. It looks fine.
|
OK. Then do some kind of Bachelor tv contest and see which state would like to welcome DC. |
| DC isn't looking for a LTR, PP. DC is looking for statehood. |
