Are there any legitimate reasons why someone would oppose DC statehood?

And as bait to the Republicans, it'd mean both the rest of Virginia and even Maryland suddenly turn much more reddish.

Balances things out all around.

Now lets see how the partisans gleefully rubbing their hands at the prospect of two more Dem senate seats react to this....as that will tell you everything you need to know.

Well, using your logic we would need to move some other things around since DC is already bigger than several states. So we would merge Alaska with Hawaii; the Dakotas go together; Vermont and New Hampshire smush, etc.

The only reason the Dems are pushing for DC statehood is the glee at the prospect of two more permanent Democratic senators. That's their only reason. It's not and never about voting disenfranchisement.

If you want people to accept DC statehood without it being a highly partisan grab for power, it needs to be tit for tat. Other states don't have that problem. Making DC a larger region is a political compromise because it reduces the overall partisanship power grab because combining NOVA with DC and PG/Montgomery County allows the Republicans to win senate seats in the rest of Virginia and also makes Maryland much more purple.

Absolutely, like you, nobody cares about black and brown people. Like you, we don’t care about them living; we don’t care about them being tear gassed by the national guard. Like you, we salivate about them dying more in foreign wars; like you, we want them to pay more federal taxes than anybody else; like you we think that they are all not smart enough for self-governance. Like you, anyone who purposes care about justice is completely and utterly morally bankrupt.

Which current state currently has jurisdiction over only one government like DC? Most states have towns and counties with their own governments. There may be a couple of states with lower population, but that population is spread out and requires infrastructure that is quite different from that of a city.

It makes sense to have DC be turned over to Maryland. The "powers that be" have already carved out the federal area, so it would be easy to do this. That will give more representation to Maryland and give representation to the District. They will likely get at least one Congressional representative and will share the selection of the Senators. Perfect sense.

Next, Democrats will use ID politics to argue that every single autonomous indian nation deserves to have representation in Congress.

Democrats can try to weaponize ID politics for quick power grabs all they want. No one is fooled.

I agree. Even states with small populations are still large in territory and more multifaceted in land use, from urbanized to rural.

Being a state comes with a lot of political powers as well as responsibilities. Would a DC state have a governor as well as mayor?

Handing DC over to MD solves all the issues. So why not do this?

But with that logic we should revoke CA and AL and AK and MS statehood too.

Yeah, that proposal would not work. DC and Md are very different policyically from Va. And now that NoVa basically controls the state and has their own two senators, they would not be willing to give that up. DC and Md are similarly politically and it was Md’s land which is why retrocession makes sense. I would support retrocession even if DC was solid red, but I would not support statehood if it were solid red.
