We just purchased uniforms for a u12 girls team and purposefully avoided white shorts and shirts (developing breasts and white are not a great combination either.)

I think it's less about whether there will be a leak (probably not, but possible) and more about how the possibility of a leak affects the girls mentally (hugely), which in turn affects their playing.

I was a gymnast growing up and wore tampons and never had a leak but let me tell you on days I had my period all I was thinking about was whether anyone could tell. Not ideal.

There's a reason there used to be from time to time ads for tampons that blared that you could wear white!!! (post-menopause so I don't pay that much attentio but I gather period hygiene ads are way more direct than they used to be)

I always had super heavy periods and I often had leaks. It is really dependent on the individual. It's not always "probably not but possible" - nice idea though.

If some girls may worry about leaking or worry their underwear will show through, then pick different shorts. Being a pubescent female is tough enough. Why make it harder?

I think leaks are rare but worrying about leaks as a teen when your body is unpredictable and changing is real and should be acknowledged.

We had white pants for softball and white skirts for cheerleading picked by a gym teacher. We decided to wear dark trunks under the skirts, but had few options back in the day under the skin tight softball pants. It was a source of constant anxiety.

White athletic anything is a dumb idea, but especially for girls.

It might be hot playing w/2 layers, but the tradeoff of having an extra layer and one that is tough and can keep things in place, is priceless.

I am a survivor of numerous middle school menstrual disasters. Thirty years later, they still haunt me! The worst was in 8th grade social studies. I stood up at the end of the class and heard snickering. Looked back and saw that I had smeared blood all over the chair and my legs. It looked like someone had been murdered. I wouldn’t have done well with white shorts.

I rarely leak. The only time would be at night on day 1 or 2 with a pad a weird sleeping position. But even then it is rare. I don't think I've ever leaked through a super tampon. If i let a regular one go more than 2 hrs on a heavy day, I run the risk.
