Is it rude to give a 2 or 3 year old a seat on a shuttle bus?

I put my toddler in the seat, and I stand next to her.

UGHHH I was just on this shuttle with my 2 and 4 year old and I am pregnant. Of course we were the last to board (waiting for gate checked luggage on the tarmac) and nobody gave us a seat. I was fine with standing but my 2 year old doesn't have the best balance, plus I had a stroller and a roller bag that I had to balance as well. It was pretty much a sh*t show. My 4 year old kept asking why other people had seats and we didn't. I wanted to say because they are a-holes who won't give their seats up for a toddler but refrained from saying so.

I've been in a situation like this, and I just ask people nicely if they woudln't mind sparing a seat so my kids can sit. Never had someone say no. If there are priority seats, I ask at those first since those are designated for small children/etc.

No they aren't. They are designated for elderly, disabled, and pregnant people. Look at the little pictures that usually are posted right above the seats.

I always let little kids and families sit, whether it’s the bus, metro, whatever. Kids are little, are just learning balance, get smushed by bigger passengers all around them, and are more prone to freak outs. Their parents are holding and managing more stuff. You’re a grown person with none of these challenges. Unless you have some reason that you need to sit, please get up for families.

I LOVE that! ABC!

I will never give up a seat for a child. Ridiculous.

Wow! I’ve traveled with my two kids before - one is 8 - and people always offer to help me even if I feel I am managing just fine. I let my kids sit and I’ll stand. It is safer for them to sit. They could get mused, someone could fall on them, they could fall. So much better for them to be in a seat. Thank you to everyone who has been so kind.

When I am not with my children I will give up a seat as needed.

Would you give up a seat for a pregnant woman?

What about a woman with a baby?

OP here who was riding with my kids. If I was with only one kid then sure no problem - I could probably handle the stroller, bag and hold on to my kid to make sure they didn't fall. But I was riding with two kids while pregnant. I figured that would give me some leeway in getting a seat for one of us, preferably the 2 year old. But nope, completely able-bodied adults just sat and watched as my 2 year old flopped around the shuttle.

Why on earth did you become pregnant again if you can't ably manage the two children you already have? It's breeders like you that are destroying the earth, and no one needs to discomfit themselves to accommodate your poor family planning choices.

Ha! I have 3 kids (4.5, 2.5, <1) and was travelling alone with them (in emergency circumstances, before you judge) and did exactly what the PP suggested for 35X and the driver told me I couldn't have the stroller open... So, there's that. No one gave me a seat either, PP, and it totally sucked and my 4.5 year old fell on someone, because I could not carry my <1, hold on to my 2.5 year old, hold on to my 4.5 year old and hold on myself. 2 of the seats were taken by people who needed them. 2 of them were absolutely not.

Another entitled breeder with more children than sense or capability.

But maybe PP has an abusive partner or didn’t learn about birth control or the earth you never know

A very young child (2 -3 and under) I would just put him/her on my lap. Until age 8 or so they get their own seat and if the need arises, I stand up myself to give my seat to someone else who needs it more than me (older, pregnant or disabled for example). Older child stands up if all other seats are taken and there is a person who needs it more.

I would not make my older child stand up for an young able bodied person.
