| Eh ignore them- my prediction is that they will divorce in 3-4 years or become this generation’s Duke and Duchess of Windsor or York or a sad combination of both. |
what exactly are the Sussexes doing wrong specifically? What did Harry say about the environment specifically? Exact words? Links to interviews and articles? What did Meghan say about the environment specifically? Exact words? Links to interviews and articles? The royals rich, but they aren't celebrities. The tabloids elevated them to that because they write something every single day won't write about anyone else. If they stop writing about the Sussexes, voila, they are off everyone's radar. As for Archie her father doesn't even associate with his 5 other grand children who live closer to him, but their parents aren't royalty. Their parents are deadbeat, drug addict spouse and child abusers, his 2 other children. |
Puh-lease. Just because you advocate for smaller carbon footprints and environmental causes doesn't mean you can't ever do anything that is extravagant. It's about choices. I'm a diabetic and have to maintain a healthy lifestyle. That doesn't mean I can't ever have a Bloomin Onion from Outback or a fruity alcoholic drink. |
They fly private frequently while preaching about the environment. It’s like if you ate a bloomin onion every week. That wouldn’t be responsible right? Carbon emissions from their recent trip exceed that of the average American’s for 1 year! |
| Thomas Markle, the guy who has been selling news about his daughter, and encouraging his other daughter to do the same, is the last person who should be calling anyone names. |
You've missed the flight-shaming movement in Europe against flying? It hasn't taken off here yet. But it will. Turns out, it's better for the environment for 100 people to drive than for them to take one plane flight. Who knew? (We knew, we just didn't care ) |
+100. Here are a few deconstructions of the tabloid headlines that I think are on point: https://meghanpedia.com/this-week-in-royal-madness-footprints-of-giants-henchmen-and-carbon-emissions/ https://meghanpedia.com/dear-british-tabloids-and-media/ |
Same as the Obamas buying that huge mansion in an island .... |
Because the Obamas are know for their mansion bashing? |
I guess PP was just using the opportunity to bash every black-adjacent celebrity? |
When we were in Europe recently, we took trains because we wanted to see the countryside and the cities we visited are close together. The trains were packed with business travelers and vacationers who say they are trying not to fly except for very long distances. The trains are very nice -- every in poor countries like the Czech Republic -- and encourage ground travel. It is much more enjoyable to take a train, too. The problem with the States is its size. I am not sure we will ever be able to do this type of travel efficiently,. |
Europe has good trains but the flight-shaming is a very recent trend. The US has lots of train tracks for freight. We could increase the use of passenger trains easily and could build out our infrastructure more, if we had the will. And in the next couple decades, I wouldn't be surprised if it happens. We're slowly beginning to contemplate changing our cities. Changing our method of long-distance travel is a much easier fix, next to that. |
| Flight shaming in Europe? Any evidence, articles? I find that interesting and wondered why everyone here in US thinks it’s ok to fly so often for travel. |
The U.S. is larger than the 26 countries of the European Union combined. Most Europeans are traveling across border country boundaries for short trips, rather like we do with states. But just like a person from Denmark is not driving to southern Italy, most New Yorkers are not driving to Atlanta.
But to answer your question, the anti-flying movement is coming from people like Greta Thunberg. https://i-d.vice.com/en_us/article/kz4b3a/see-photos-from-greta-thunbergs-first-climate-strike-in-the-us https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-08-10/greta-thunberg-and-flight-shame-fuel-a-carbon-offset-boom |
