| DCPS teacher here—zeros count as zeros |
Why not, O Grading Guru? Enlighten the poor mortals. |
|
From the Deal Weekly Bulletin sent Sun, Jan 21, 2018:
Grading Students will receive a zero for missing assignments Students will have 10 (ten) school days, from the date the assignment was posted in Aspen, to make up a missing assignment |
They can enter a zero and will but it does not compute as a zero, really how difficult is this parents. Just like teachers don't compute the final grade, grades translate to letter grades do they not on the report card so you what folks are trying to tell you is that zero does not compute to an F, check out the grading policy of DCPS, there were articles about this also in the Washington Post.

F/Zero - 63 |

I am looking at my child's ASPEN. I have a child who either gets a 100 on HW forgets to turn it in.
You can say refer to policy all you want - I can from experience tell you now not handing it in 0. The old way - not handing it in was a 59. We also have a lot of those. The 0 is calculated as a 0 for grade for the period. |
|
ZEROS ARE COUNTED AS ZEROS!!!!
Why are we arguing this? I JUST calculated my child's homework grade at Deal. The zeros counted as zeros. End of story. I can do the math. I am not an idiot. Again, STOP MAKING SH$%^T up if you do not have proof. |
ASPEN calculates the grades enters by conversion, refer to DCPS! Students do not get a number grade on final report card they get a letter, the final grades are calculated by the system, find out what the lowest grade DCPS (ASPEN/The system), whatever you want to call it does the calculation. This is not unique to DCPS, happens in other local and national systems too. Plenty of debates and discussions on the topic online, teachers have little control over the final grading and computation, which is what is finally reported. |
Yes, but as a parent of a child the just graduated from Deal that has received zeros they count as zeros and they pull grades down because they are actually calculated as a zero, both midway through the grading period and at the end. Two years ago there was nothing less than a 59 or 60, that changed. My 8th grader’s A was pulled down to a B+ by this. |
| Deal teacher here: zeroes do count. The grading policy changed after the scandal. |
You are so annoying because you will not admit you are wrong. We can do the math. We see the final grades on the report card and we know that zeros are counted as zeros. Every time. |
Why so nasty? What's wrong with you??? My kid will do the assignment but the assignment is dumb and meant for kids who are not readers (to have them keep with with reading just a little bit). Also the book selection is staggeringly depressing (even our ES teachers were shocked!) . It's summer, people! |
6th grade? Read Wrinkle in Time and be done with it. Such drama! |
| So I don't care how Deal grades, but since you all have yammered on for four pages now about zeros, can someone please post the assignment for the rest of us? |
It’s on the website. |
