I’m thinking of writing a book ...would you read it based on this plot?

This seems like something that's been written 10,000 times and could easily be found for 99 cents on Amazon Kindle. You've got to add something different that would set it apart from all the rest.

That said, if you're writing this to work out some issues and don't plan to write it to make money, I believe you can self publish on Amazon. That way you could write your book, work through your issues, and get it out there. But save yourself the headache of really publishing a book. Of course, this does not work if you're hoping to make a lot of money/make a career out of it.

You would probably have a small cohort of interested folks

Bleh, no thanks. I like actual prose and literature, not EL James smut.

Nobody wants to read that book.

I wouldn’t read this because I have zero interest in this topic but someone will read it.

Why don’t you involve some dragons, a reborn Daenerys Targaryen, and maybe Arya Stark can come and be an additional love interest for one of the women? That would be interesting.

+1000

Your plot is far from original. Sexual fluidity is no longer taboo and the curiousity factor is dwindling fast.

Maybe add in a cultural element or a religious element to make the sexual attraction forbidden, but even then, it would be sorta "meh".

I’d require really great writing, complex characters, and new and subtle ways of describing people and behaviors.

You know what I meant. Find*

If you're thinking about writing a book, you shouldn't get snippy when people point out your poor writing skills.

You didn’t need to be a jerk. You knew what I meant and just enjoyed acting like one.

I didn’t post that second response. But I also wasn’t a jerk. Good writers will fix typos before putting their pitch out there, even on DCUM. And I gave you a substantive answer as well, so you’re welcome.

This has to be a troll. There’s the classic multiplicity of responses to the different people posting on this thread.

Hi. I'm a published author (of children's books, but the fundamentals are the same). Always happy to meet another writer!

A couple of things --

There really are no "original" plots. It's all in how you execute it, the voice you bring to it, the way you develop the characters. So I would not worry about the plot notes you included on this thread.

One thing to think about now, while you are in the planning stages, is reading a book or two on craft. The thing that jumps out at me from your notes is that you don't have an external conflict. You have your characters in a situation but I'm not seeing something bigger that is raising the stakes.

A couple of books I recommend are SAVE THE CAT WRITES A NOVEL and THE PLOT WHISPERER (there is a workbook with TPW that is also really helpful). Save The Cat will help you with story structure and developing your plot and outline. TPW will do the same but also make you do a deep dive into your characters.

If a story is calling to you, you should write it. But my advice is not to dive in too quickly to the writing part. You will have an easier go of it if your plot and characters are on solid ground first.

Good luck!

Same

Me too. But there is a lid for every pot, OP. It sounds soundly in the romance genre.

Fwiw I've had a book idea in my head for years now but haven't started bc I don't know how really. You sound exited and should do it!

NP, thanks for this!!!!!

OP it sounds like directly from your life. It’s kind of boring. It takes a lot of skill to make characters come alive when not much is actually happening. Girl meets girl at work.

Id read it!

Can you jazz it up - evil identical twin, murder mystery, something that is a little bit more interesting other than 2 people shacking up?
