Exactement. We like our staff and administration to look like us. We came to Lycee Rochambeau for real French teachers, staff and students. Stay at American school if you want something different.

"Look like us?" Uhm, you know there are millions of people of African descent in France? How many Francophone countries are there are in Africa? What about Hatians? Do you know how many French-speaking people of African descent are in the DC area? The world needs less racist nationalism these days.

+1. I wonder whether the "look like us" PP is really a parent, or someone trying to make the school look bad. I have a child at the school and luckily haven't met any parents who've expressed similar sentiments. I will say I would love for the school to hire more teachers of color, though.

I really dislike these finger-pointing posts. This forum is to share information and work together as a community.

Are you really a parent? This passive-aggressive "I would love for the school to hire more teachers of color" but I'm still sending my children to the school anyway is a cop out. If your kids are at the school, clearly it doesn't matter to you.

"Look like us "" PP - shame on you! You and Rochambeau both seem to believe that Francophone is a race instead of a cultural community. The majority of native French speakers in the world aren't white.

We should all be doing the same thing - go tour the school, talk to at least 3 current and former families before you join. Always look beyond the admissions presentation - it’s just a sales pitch.

PP here, yes I'm really a parent. I suspected the other person was not a real parent because it doesn't sound like anything I've ever heard at the school--the parents I've met are pretty inclusive (although yes, most families are native or fluent French speakers, so they tend to congregate). Also, that PP followed up with another post about "students from more than 20 countries" (but they're glad no Haitians/Africans/etc. are among school leadership). That was a clue because the school has significantly more than just twenty countries represented. There are more than 10 countries represented in my kid's class alone, and I'd imagine there are probably like 60-80 countries represented overall in the school, from the maternelle through the upper school.

Yes, I'd love for the school to have more teachers of color--teachers that look like my kid. Unfortunately, that isn't the case--I imagine this has to do with the pool of available Francophone teachers that have the necessary credentials via the French educational system. My kid has teachers/coaches of color outside of school for various sports, music, and community activities, but yes it would be nice if they could also learn French or math or science from minority teachers too. I think things are a little better on the upper school campus.
