Are you out of your mind? Sorry your Bethesda/Potomac child did not get in. There are high achieving kids everywhere. The set aside of the 25 seats is a historical compromise, but it doesn't really matter anymore. TP is a very intellectual area (lots of college professors live there and other science-y types) and their kids are very bright. The TP kids perform very well and likely would've gotten in anyway.

I doubt many people really believe that.

Also one can look at how many local kids get in the Blair Magnet program.

The largest single cohort @Blair magnet are from Takoma & Silver Spring.

Makes sense. I read these days that Blair's average SAT scores now are 50+ points higher than any W.

Do you really think when at a glance comes out that the high poverty Blair will have federally registered test scores that high or do you think that just maybe the Blair published brag sheet just picked a small targeted sample group of known kids because it wasn’t official. I am actually looking forward to when the real scores come out you can shut up about this. Shame we have to be pointing out how it is still just low GS Blair to do it.

In previous years, when comparing the largest common demographic cohort between Blair and any W, Blair's SAT average was always 50+ points higher. This is a matter of public record and has been discussed to death here, but I'm guessing you'll find another lame excuse.

It's not much of an achievement since the W's have been in decline for decades. The only thing they excel at these days is getting in the paper for one scandal or another.

Achievement Gap has become even more significant. We are trying to educate kids who don't want to be educated and parents who don't value education.

The middle class/working class high achieving student who could get an excellent education at the MCPS magnet is the one who is losing out. The communities that were high achieving have now become even more accomplished. Now every high achiever weaves in the PC story of how they are helping poor URMs in their college essays so that they can go to the Ivies and become successful. This is all a bunch of BS.

This is happening in all public school systems. To keep the federal funds flowing.

Its been pointed many times to you that there is NO OFFICIAL source that matches the numbers that only exist in your own file. Another poster on one of your other threads revealed that someone at Blair decided to pull out a small samplings of white students at Blair cherry picking the high scores and this data has never been sanctioned or provided by MCPS. Its a stupid attempt for what purpose no one knows. Perhaps you have some deep seated inferiority complex that the mere mention of Bethesda triggers but your data is false and you know it.

Blair is a high poverty school. No way around that one unless you want to decide that 53% students ever being on FARMS is a sign of economic prosperity. Blair's GS score is only a 6 even with bussing in 20% of the high performing students. Blair's MD Report card is in the 60s. Blair's average SAT is around 1184 even with the 20% of the kids in the magnet.

Blair isn't a school that many people desire to be in unless their other options are even worse.

Perhaps your kid #1 became a compelling candidate for all the magnets because he got a stellar education through the TPMS reservation, which he may not have had he competed across the county, or even DCC

Because there are so many qualified kids, it's a bit of a lottery, so they want to make sure there is cross-over between local and magnet. it's good for the student body. Frankly, I think all magnets should do this. I also think we should have more magnet seats. So many bright kids able to flourish in these programs. Truly. I teach in TP and know several super bright in boundary kids who did not make the program.

It's only a high-poverty school if you fiddle with the numbers - speaking of cooking the books.

But that isn’t why they did it, TP was under represented due to inability to make the cut

Nobody cares about W's these days. Whitman is a GS 4 and B-CC is a GS 6 based on test scores.

But it wasn’t an official number, say it all you want but only the numbers reported to the state matter. I’ll bet you the 25 AA slots that the numbers reported to the state put blair in the middle to bottom of the county

This has been posted numerous times by magnet parents.

MCPS letterhead is official.

The TPMS 25 easy to get in spots are not affirmative action spots. There is no preference given for race or FARMS. Most of those spots go to white kids. It was a hook to get more in bound private schools kids back into the school.

The DCC would do far better on test score if more people sent their kids to public instead of private schools. The private school usage in Bethesda doesn't really matter because the rest of the kids staying in public are still high scoring. This isn't true in the DCC so there need to more not less hooks to get the kids out of the privates.

We TKPK-ers just need to learn to ignore these Non TKPK-ers who made a choice to not live here and now have FOMO. OK, so our less qualified kids got into TPMS magnet. They"ll meet your kids in the Blair magnet and let's figure out how dumb our kids are/were.
