Families certainly can choose to apply to both. TJ is open to applications from anywhere in the world, and people will often move from other states to be closer if their child is admitted.

No.

I quote from TJHSST's webpage:

All applicants to TJHSST must, at the time of application, live with a parent or legal guardian who resides full time in, and meets the residency requirements of, a school division that participates in TJHSST. (FCPS Regulation 3355.13)

The applicant and the parent/legal guardian must actually reside (be present) in the participating school division at the time of application. If you own property here, but do not actually live here, you are not eligible to apply to TJHSST unless and until you actually reside here.

The school divisions currently participating in TJHSST are:

Arlington County
Fairfax County (includes City of Fairfax)
Falls Church City
Loudoun County
Prince William County
Fauquier County Public Schools and the cities of Alexandria, Manassas, and Manassas Park do not currently participate in TJHSST. Students who live in those school divisions are not eligible to apply to, or attend, TJHSST. If you live in one of these school divisions and you have questions regarding their non-participation in TJHSST, please contact that school division directly for additional information.

It is a violation of Virginia law (Va. Code § 22.1-264.1) to make false statements concerning the residency of a child for purposes of enrollment in a school outside of the attendance zone in which the student resides.

Really? All this time I thought it was George Jefferson and specialized in dry cleaning.

I'm not there now but when I was a student, we called it Jefferson.

You must be out of the area. It is like people from DC call it DC and others call it Washington or Washington DC

So you are saying that a kid can apply to both Blair and Jefferson? Provided a kid does live in Blair designated area but of course not in VA.

Can I just say wow to the list of colleges the Blair class will be attending.

I think you are a troll. Not a single MC. Here is the list from last year:

The next stops for the Montgomery Blair SMAC Class of 2018...

Boston University
Brown University
Cal Tech (3)
Carnegie Mellon University (2)
Cornell University (2)
Duke University (2)
Elon University
Georgia Tech
Harvard University (3)
Johns Hopkins University (2)
M.I.T. (6)
Oxford University
Princeton University
Rice University
Rochester Institute of Technology (2)
Stanford University (2)
Stevenson Institute of Technology
Towson University
University of California Berkeley
University of California Los Angeles (2)
University of California San Diego
University of California Santa Barbara
University of Delaware
University of Maryland Baltimore County
University of Maryland College Park (37)
University of Miami
University of Michigan
University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill
University of Pennsylvania (2)
University of Pittsburgh (2)
University of Southern California
University of Toronto
University of Vermont
Vanderbilt University (2)

+1 And with 3 admitted to Harvard, that's more admits than $40k/year st. albans.

This list is attending not admitted.
So admitted but not attending is probably more

First of all there is nothing wrong with MC (as dual enrollment or after graduation) than guaranteed transfer to UMD. You save quite a lot of money that route. We heavily consider this for one of our magnet kids who wants to study at UMD. You can also use that route of other very good schools (with good GPA) and save a lot of money for OOS tuition.
Another thing that you would notice by looking at this list that money is big issue here and plenty of families here with no FAFSA aid. Who would want to pay $80k+ a year with multiple kids? I am not in line.
I have told my kids - no applications to Ivies. Pointless. We would not pay for it.
I am surprised by only 1 for Ga Tech and 1 for Michigan. Probably two kids messed up their GPA with UMBC and Towson. (I would rather go to MC, but everyone is different)
I bet that kids who went to Vermont, Miami, Delaware, and Pitt got good scholarships and just wanted to be away from home.
It is not wise to spend $300K on college for one kid, unless you have huge amount of money in the family.

Sorry, quite a lot of typos above.

No one said there is anything wrong with MC. It is a great resource for all kinds of students. It is not however where "plenty" of Blair magnet kids land..which a PP stated.

I personally think I rather send my kids to TJ. Everyone at TJ is bright and driven, it is only a small percentage of Blair’s population that is magnet with the rest pulling from the poorer parts of the county. I am sure many of those kids are hard workers but many won’t be, in a school that big there is almost as many dropouts as magnet kids.

Perhaps, that was true 20-30 years ago, not sure, but these days it's not accurate. Further, as someone posted elsewhere Blair makes TJ their b**ch in every actual comparison.

Which part isn’t true? Blair is getting poorer and higher farms. Some middle class for sure but no one would call the university Blvd corridor a nice part of town

Blair's 2018 SAT average was like 50 points higher than any W.

W parents went crazy when that little tidbit came out. Before they could only point at the SAT scores to show they were better. Now that Blair scores shot up, they are sh$##ing on themselves. Their only advantage has disappeared.

NMSF? Nope
Presidential? Nope
Science bowls? Nope
Siemens? Nope
Science Olympiads? Nope
Math Olympiads? Nope
Intel/Regeneron scholars? Hell no

What are they good at actually? The consensus was classicism and racism.
