Rumor about LAMB lottery

This is what had happened in the past. Or- people "forgot" they already entered their child. Entered once with middle initial - once middle name - once with Jr etc.

You are literally making things up.

You know where this doesn't happen? the MSDC lottery site. because you're putting in your kid's SSN and address and they have the systems to actually filter multiple entries out. But sure, LAMB can run a rogue crap platform year after a year, while all the other bilingual schools migrated to the common lottery years ago. I think they do it so they can boast how many applicants they have, because so many people apply to Lamb because it doesn't involve using one of your 12 slots.

So many people apply to LAMB because it’s an amazing school ...

Uh, what? LAMB is better than any of the schools in your 12 slots. By a mile. That's why so many people apply.

So many apply because it’s a free slot and people don’t have to narrow it within their 12 slots. If they were common lottery, they would decrease their applicants somewhat for sure. I am one that applied to LAMB and have no intention or desire to go but wanted another shot at a lottery with a free spin.

They also have a bloated waitlist when compared to the other schools (in the common lottery, you are not waitlisted at a school you like less)..

You seriously don’t realize people apply just because there’s no downside? Talking about magical thinking! We applied. We have no interest in Spanish or Montessori. We do have an interest in free PK at a school with a reasonable commute for us. LAMB is a free roll of the dice, so we listed it. It otherwise wouldn’t have made our top 13.

So many people DON’T apply because it’s not in the common lottery and they just don’t know about it. Their waitlist will probably double if they ever join the common lottery.

If only they would join the common lottery and we could test this hypothesis. I'm another who listed LAMB because it's a free slot. I wouldn't have otherwise.

Then you have no reason to complain about it. Other than being a Bitter Betty.

The weirdos who think LAMB doesn’t participate in the common lottery for nefarious reasons (so they can sneak in celebrity kids?!? Or to brag about their waitlist) are being ridiculous. The school has said, again and again, that they believe their outreach and process is more effective at recruiting native Spanish speaking families to the school. Further, they have been under interim leadership for the past two years and so were unlikely to make a decision to join the MSDC lottery. I think they probably will join next year, personally. But I have no internal insight.

Please also see other thread in which it is proven that their theory is true, most likely (increases Spanish speakers). And it’s also basically the same thread. So annoying.

No. That's not the way the world works. Just because I don't want something, doesn't mean I can't complain that it's operating in an incorrect way. Just like I don't want to go to USC, but I can recognize that people shouldn't bribe their way in.

Except it’s not running in an incorrect way- you’re making things up. Lamb is really cautious when it comes to the lottery. You have no basis at all to make this slanderous accusations.

Getting into LAMB is like getting into Princeton -- it's among the best schools in Washington D.C. That's why people apply. Obviously, there's no downside to applying. Is there a downside to applying to any school? Does anyone feel constrained by "only" having 12 schools to pick from in the common lottery? Are there people who really wanted to apply to 30 schools, and had to winnow that down to just a dozen?
