+1. But, since you have they money, if she goes to Mason, she should live on campus. You definitely miss a big part of the experience living at home. DH did that and it's a big regret for him.

I am much like OPs daughter and even went to GMU and lived at home. I have absolutely no regrets. Guess what I did at age 23 in 2000? I purchased a SFH in Vienna woods as soon as I got my first professional job. I immediately got roommates and loved for free.

I have no regrets. At age 41 I have a home that is paid off and a job that pays just shy of 300k and have invested heavily in real estate. I know people my same age still paying college loans! I'd much rather of not had a college "experience" and have what I do today.

I doubt you are making $300K and still living in that shi6666le vienna woods rambler....another troll

Your daughter will have much greater access to finance/ Big 5 accounting firms coming out of Columbia. Many of those firms only recruit from top 20 colleges. Many are also based in NYC. You may be able to get her AN internship, but she'll have more choices coming out of Columbia. She'll also meet a broader range of people.

Since money isn't a factor and you just plan to donate it then dfiintely Columbia. How is this even a question.

Besides, the only way your DD is already accepted at Columbia is binding ED. The RD notifications aren't out yet. So that means you and she already signed the binding agreement to attend if she was admitted. Sounds like you made the commitment back in November so not sure why you are still debating it.

Take her to visit both schools again and let her decide. You can clearly afford both. I would not have her live at home. She needs to live on campus.

Yeah, there are many tells, but a big one is that GMU requires freshmen to live on campus.

Also, the $100,000 piano was a nice touch.

Op reminds me of my Indian friends who kill their kids to get into TJ but then only to limit them to go to in state Va colleges rather than pursue Ivy, MiT, Stanford. One of my Indian buddies son got into Harvard but was “forced” to enroll at VCU (because they offered sugnificsnt merit did). I don’t have an issue with taking a free or near free ride but the family has considerable assets to afford Harvard.

Why are these the only choices? There is a lot of space between GMU and Columbia. I personally wouldn’t send my child to either.

Op is a f** troll. B**. Obviously you want to go for Columbia.

Op says I have friends in Wall Street. B*** that does not mean your daughter is smart.

Probably because VCU was free.

It was mostly free but giving up the Harvard (and a few other Ivys) opportunity?...

Uh, living at home versus NYC? Uh, Ivy League versus what? Which school can open up the most doors? You’ve got the money in a 529, why not use it? Is your goal to save money or invest in your child? Getting into Columbia is a huge accomplishment.
