I don't understand why you don't just buy your own groceries. Not being trollish here I just really don't get it. I do Instacart or similar very occasionally like when I'm sick or if my DH is out of town and juggling kids and grocery shopping is annoying. But typically I don't really mind going and I like that I can make these judgment calls you are talking about myself including decisions like "huh the asparagus isn't looking that good I'll make snap peas instead" which are impossible with a shopper.
If I were very wealthy I'd just have a chef and housekeeper and they'd do all of this themselves. But I'm just regular umc and while I can afford these services I can also afford the time to go grocery shop. Since I also cook my own food and have reasonably high standards about food quality it's just more efficient for me to shop myself. |
my last straw was ordering two 2 pound bags of apples; somehow the shopper found these monstrous 1 pound apples and put four of them in the cart……so I could cut them up and everyone has brown apple slices at lunch or send my kid to school with an apple only slightly smaller than their head.
Just get what I ask for and I will pile tip money on you for making my life easy! |
Those giant apples. Why do they grow them at all? ![]() |
I've never had a messed up Instacart order for Costco or Wegmans. Honestly, they blow Whole Foods out of the water. The instacart shoppers text, ask if I need anything else, communicate about substitutions, and I can order at 4:45 and have Wegmans by 6. Whole Foods is a crap shoot, and now they've removed the text with the shopper feature. I usually order organic and half the time they grab conventional but I am charged for the organic. They substitute ridiculous items, as if the shopper never saw food before. I ordered two pounds of ribeye, and instead of substituting with another similar steak, I got a brisket (so instead of grilling for a few minutes, I was signed up to an all day smokefest). |
I use Harris Teeter delivery. Perfect every time. Instacart is not good. If you get a good shopper, they contact you. If not, you get a bunch of stuff you don’t want. |
Just do your own shopping. |
+1 |
I'm in Rockville too. Occasionally I have issues, but they are quick to reimburse. My shoppers usually contact and pay attention to substitution guidelines. But I primarily use Instacart for Wegmans. |
I just wish that they would touch base about substitutions. Instead unlessI’m glued to my phone while they’re shopping, they will pick random stuff (or just say ‘not available’ and refund when I know there are similar options ) and then check out before I can even approve or reject the substitution. I enjoy grocery shopping but I just don’t have time honestly. Demanding job that bleeds into weekends and evenings, demanding/high needs child, makes weekend shopping pretty much a no-go. I can only do my own grocery shopping on weekday mornings if I WFH and just start late/work late. |
I don’t get it. Just stop using instacart. You’re now paying a premium for a service that makes your life harder. Just go in the store yourself. |
Love Instacart for Costco. I will never step foot in that hellhole again, worth every extra penny to have someone else deal with their overcrowded parking lot, overcrowded aisles, so that I do not have to. |
I quit Instacart five years ago when my shopper said there was no substitute for the ham I ordered. I ended up having to go to the store myself to get ham for DS’s lunch and there were at least 10 types of ham! This was the last straw in a series of Instacart issues. |
I don't understand why you all don't find a good Instacart shopped and pay them off the site. There is no reason to continue using - and paying part of the transaction to Instacart - when you can find a person and pay them directly. |
How much do they get paid? |
