This isn't 1972. The club runs 5 different social media pages. Please subscribe to one.

Anyone interested in playing for an ECNL or DA club these days should be reaching out to the technical director of that club to express interest and inquire about tryout/player ID process. The days of big cattle-call tryouts are past. If you're waiting around for that, your child may get lost in the shuffle. Better to make a personal introduction, share some info about your player and ask about opportunities to attend training sessions. This gives your player and the club the chance to experience a real day in the life. Doesn't mean they won't hold ID days and that your player won't go, but I wouldn't rely on that alone as the only way to check each other out (player and club).

Well FCV, per their social media outlets, have announced and executed several ID sessions without issue. So what's the problem?

Anonymous
I'm not saying it's a problem.

I'm suggesting that if your kid is interested in moving to an ECNL or DA team, you should reach out to the club and make an introduction versus just sitting around waiting for an ID session to be scheduled or posted.

And I'd have this same advice if they were looking at FCV. In fact, I'd recommend this especially if they were looking at FCV where there will be good turnout at their well-promoted ID sessions.

My post was not a commentary on whether or not Wash Spirit will hold ID sessions and/or whether or not they do a good job of promoting them.

At the time that FCV was hosting ID sessions there was still uncertainty with the new Spirit ownership regarding the future and direction of their DA program overall and VA in particular.

I would expect more sessions to be announced as they can be accommodated now that the DA season has begun. So, the PP's advice is sound, contact the club and attend practices. You will find that all ID sessions, ECNL and DA alike will simply be subject to the season schedule. Cattle call sessions during regular practices do not work well once the season starts so they are often limited to weekend dates which will naturally conflict with DA and other league schedules when scheduling fields.

Hence FCV stating on their 5 social media outlets to contact (insert name) to attend a practice session.

Sometimes I suspect that these questions are being asked to promote conversations about Spirit ID sessions for the purpose of recruitment.

Anyone who can find this forum and make a post should be educated enough to contact their club of choice.

That's the reason I bring up the social media outlets. The information is out there and readily available to the common consumer. This forum is 10x harder to find.

People like to crowd source every petty decision/question in their lives anymore.

And frankly, the poster could be told next week but if it isn't on the website to register for then what is the point in even saying if it is known? Check the website often and follow any of the various social media outlets for any alerts.

The problem with groupsource is that it leads to groupthink...which is can be easily manipulated by recruiters in these threads. Pay attention to the "Yelp" reviews. They may mean something.

The Dangers of Groupthink
By Naomi Karten - March 8, 2013

Groupthink is a psychological phenomenon in which everyone in a group goes along with a decision without critical evaluation of alternative ideas or viewpoints. The desire for harmony or conformity is so strong that no one dares to say, “Wait a minute, this may not be such a good idea.” And it happens all the time in the workplace.

Signs that a group is engaging in groupthink include collectively rationalizing its decisions, demonizing those who are not part of the group, and maintaining a culture of uniformity in which individuals censor themselves so as not to obstruct that unanimity.

Additional symptoms include the illusion of invulnerability, rationalization of warnings, the tendency to overlook negatives, and the fear of challenging a decision.

Being lazy and asking a factual question that can otherwise be easily obtained or surmised is not group think.

No, but asking questions on an anonymous forum leaves you open to manipulation. Point being, it's so unbelievably lazy that is stinks.

You honestly believe that this forum is represented by the statement: " The desire for harmony or conformity is so strong that no one dares to say, “Wait a minute, this may not be such a good idea.” And it happens all the time in the workplace."???
