Where's your college kid going for spring break?

Why the price tags?

Mine don't go anywhere if they can't pay 100% of the expense. They are welcomed at home or family vacation if we go.

Are students allowed to stay on campus over Christmas and spring break? Are dining halls open?

Spring break yes. Winter break, no

I would pay for that too. Otherwise, nothing.

My child chose another school over a full ride. So no extra money to her

Well the school was U of Alabama - Huntsville. After visiting she realized she wanted a much more diverse school. Ended up with another with good merit. Brought it down to 20K. We said we would pay it, but she had to earn spending money and and global experiences on her own. She works part time during school and is in the co-op program. I think she made the right choice. Still not going to hand her money for a fun trip though. It amazes me how many parents do.

I'm excited for DC to experience traveling on his own. And happy to pay if he'll let me.

There’s a reason the U of Alabama Huntsville diploma is sold at a deep discount.

NP. The kind of mom who will have adult child who doesn’t understand the value of money or working/saving for the things you want vs things you need.

LOL... WTH is a research trip?

Not the PP, but most colleges with research positions take trips with those professors on breaks. My son did multiple ones, even as an undergrad. You usually pay for the airfare, but everything else is paid for by the school. New Mexico was his favorite.

Oh you mean conferences?

Actually he is insisting on paying which is why I would like to treat him. DC has saved a significant amount from summer intenships and invested wisely.
He's on a mission and is always the responsible, hardworking kid. Part of the job as a mom with this kind of kid is encouraging him to fully enjoy the journey too.
I want him to feel free to take full advantage of this rare break. I don't have the same transition to adulthood concern as the critical poster.

Going to a beach with friends. Paying using his leftover scholarships money and I am okay with it. He is on a full ride merit.
