Agree. My DD has an October 3 birthday. I'd rather have her be the oldest child in the class than the youngest in the class, especially during those middle and high school years.

Amen!

My child has an October 6 birthday and I would not have put him in kinder as a 4 year old. They are simply too young.

I'm putting my Sept 25th birthday DS in Kindergarten. He is the youngest of three and teachers have all agreed he is ready. It is will be a small private school so if he needs to repeat at our public school, we will have that option in a year

In general, absent extenuating circumstances, I just believe in following the cutoff and it is what it is.

It all depends on your child's maturity level. If you feel that your child is socially mature enough to deal with and make friends with kids a year and more older, go ahead and do the EEK. If you doubt yourself, let her go on time and make her repeat PreK.

Mine repeated Pre-k and we feel it was the best choice. My cousin's kid was pushed. Although the child is academically very strong, he is struggling with making friends.

You know your child best OP. I remember asking the same question a few years ago. As a parent, sometimes you do not know if you made the right choice and second guess yourself. It has happened to me several times, but I made my peace with my decision.
