What you mean like Al Franken resigning because of a dopey picture while our GOP POTUS is on video bragging about grabbing women's pussies and has been accused by 16 women of sexual assault was elected President?

+1. I’m a Democrat but this is the problem with the far left. They think they’re doing a good thing by pointing out all the dumb stuff people on our side have done in the past and calling for their resignation/removal. Then the right-wingers take advantage of it and we lose otherwise good people like Franken, who made a bad decision in the past before they were even involved in politics. We insist on trying to be the adults in the room while Republicans get away with so much because their voters/supporters just don’t care.

As a staunch conservative and Trump supporter, I thought Franken should have NOT resigned. Frankly, she had years to speak up and didn't. And while this photo of Northam is ugly, it was a long long time ago. More concerned about how the photo of Farrakhan and Obama was hidden before the election as that was NOT a long long time ago.

Im a Democrat who was pissed that Franken resigned. He should have not.

I don’t know enough about Northam. How is he doing so far? Is he improving quality of life for Virginians? Has he been generally popular? Does he show remorse? Young guys get the most obnoxious, crudest ideas in their heads and, it was a different time. So I am apt to give some grace as long as he is otherwise doing well as a Democrat. And who would replace him? That matters too.

Yep, this is the Republican smear machine trying to get revenge.

The timing is too convenient, the general assembly fighting over abortion, and suddenly this comes out? Don’t tell me Republicans didn’t dig this up or weren’t holding onto it for the right time! People had to have known about it, what about all the other people’ who went to med school and had a yearbook? There isn’t just one copy of this. Give me a break. It’s awful and I do think he should resign, but politics are dirty on both side (all those people claiming Pelosi held onto the Kavanaugh letter until the last minute as a political tactic, as if Republicans don’t do the same thing). Doing dumb, racist stuff is horrible, so is sexually assaulting someone.

Bring on Fairfax I guess.

Please. If the Republicans had this, they would have dropped it LONG before now... like before the election. Let's not forget the disgusting ad that Northam ran with a man in a truck with a Confederate flag chasing after a girl. You know Gillespie's team could have made a big deal with this.

Why now, you ask? Well, maybe some journalists are finally choosing to do their f'ing jobs after Northam's statement regarding abortion. Maybe that was just a bridge too far for some.

If one cannot prove it's him in blackface or under the hood, he has no reason to resign. Signed, a Trump supporter.

Virginia stays winning. What a joke of a state.

Is this a real medical school? I had never heard of it before today.

Doubtful. Big League Politics was the first to break this story.
But - Gillespie's team could have done a better job in their research.

Having said that - where in the hell are investigative journalists these days? This was sitting on the shelf at the school he attended.
Oh, that's right.... he's a Democrat.

You think the Republicans working oppo research for Gillespie ignored this because Northam is a Democrat? That doesn’t make much sense.

Why do you think Gillespie did not raise this?

They were afraid that if they did, all the Republicans would vote for Northam.

Gillespie's team did not ignore it. They never found it. They would not have kept this under wraps.
But, neither did so-called investigative journalists whose job it is to find stuff.

Who’s kicking himself right now is Perriello.

i don't think northam will last another week - a republican would probably get a sup ct nomination and be praised as a fine young man

This. And I’m not happy with Northam. So far no comment from him, right? Leads me to believe he’s one of those racist idiots in the picture and he’s not man enough to apologize.

If Northam has no excuse for that pic and resigns, I am fine with Lt Gov Justin Fairfax taking over. He is a great option for Virginia.

What would be an acceptable excuse? His family held at gunpoint off camera, and their lives dependent on him wearing blackface and posing with a klan member?

That he did something stupid when he was young and he was sorry. Similar to GW Bush driving drunk and Jeff Sessions on the record saying all sorts of racist stuff and still getting confirmed as Attorney General.

Sorry, no. If this is real, it’s one of the most repulsive and shameful images imaginable.

It is repulsive. So is driving drunk and saying racist stuff.

We’re talking about the governor here. Keep up. Should he resign?

Did GW Bush witdraw when the stuff about his DWI came out? Did Trump withdraw when the pussy grabbing recording came out? They were candidates and they continued and won.

Not a relevant answer or an excuse.

Wrong. I am ok with Northam being held accountable for his yearbook. Why weren't you outraged for Kavanaugh being held accountable for his?

I agree with you.
This photo brings a real dilemma for those on the left who apply today's standards to events that happened decades ago.
We take down statues, rename streets, rename buildings, and go to great lengths because we hold people from the past to the standards set today.
So, uncovering this photo, which was taken in the recent past (as opposed to long long ago) is causing the left to face this harsh reality they have set. Let's see how they deal with it.

There is no dilemma. We just cannot understand why democrats are held to different standards than republicans.

I lile Northam, so I was disappointed to hear about this. But I was very relieved to see that CNN ran a story about it. Since they're fake news, I knew this story isn't true. What a relief!

But it is relevant IMO. It’s allowing the right-wingers to police the morality of Democratic candidates while they, themselves, generally get away scot-free. It’s a double standard.
