| Very few Ross families go private. A handful go to charters for 5th grade. Most of those who remain are heading to Francis Stevens. Some move for Deal/Wilson or MCPS. |
Yup. There’s a bunch of former Ross parents in upper Nw and close-in Maryland. |
Not true. The wealthier parents start leaving after kindergarten for private when the classes get really big. |
Milton has a stop right near Ross, several kids are going to middle school there. |
"Class size to big" is often an explanation for "I think my kids is extra special and needs some more attention" and I can pay for it. But no one actually would say that out loud. But 5th grade at Ross is 20 plus, not many kids drop out for privates after 1st, but a there are a few kids with precious parents with cash that do. |
Many left at the end of 4th, true enough. But MOST stayed. Fact. |
| From last year’s 4th grade class, six left for charters, one for MCPS. The rest stayed. Not aware of any that went private. |
And the past few years a lot of the kids leaving from younger grades were parent's jobs relocating them away from DC. Lots of government workers only here in DC for training or an assignment. |
If you're talking about Milton Gottesman, parents who decide to send their kids there are often heavily weighting Jewish cultural/religious factors, and those factors don't apply to every Ross student. Milton has advantages, but it's not going to be weighted equally by everyone, and in this case should be considered a bit of an outlier. |
| How big are class sizes at Ross? |
High 20s usually. Maybe 24-28 depending on the grade. |
Thanks! |
They give a lot of aid - so parents who would not otherwise consider day school, but need a private, like many Ross parents, go private. Not an outlier. |
But are any families really leaving for Milton? In the past few years I know of only one family. |
Since they opened a middle school, yes. |
