Would you buy a Tesla? Or any $40k car?

Go talk to some Tesla workers. They all adore Elon and consider him a visionary.

Elon lies all the time. That’s a given. His timeline isn’t based on reality.

Tesla gives out factory tours to Tesla owners as an incentive for referrals. You can talk to the workers yourself.

Whatever you say about Elon, he is a visionary and genius and lunatic. He did make the quota for model 3 production however. Very awesome. Revolutionized the car industry. Everyone else is playing catch-up with Tesla.

Yes I am sure that corporate stage-managed factory visits are the best way to get a balanced view of working conditions.

Know any other automakers that will give factory tours regularly?

If you are an early adopter (I am not) then get a Tesla, all the money is going back into R&D to help save the planet. If you don't have extra money don't do this.

If you just want the best hybrid/electric car... get a Prius it is tried and true.

I test drove everything before buying a Tesla MS P100D. Nothing comes close. The only reason to buy a Prius over a model 3 is cost. The model 3 is aimed at people who are considering Mercedes A/C class and BMW 4/5 series

I really want a Tesla, but my husband says not to get one because he is not sure if the company will be around in the next 10 years and we will need to get it serviced at the dealer. Anyone else think this? Or have other financial arguments on why to buy or not buy a Tesla? We are looking at the model 3 either new or slightly used. New cost is about $50k with about $6k in tax refunds (federal and state) and we have an $8k trade in. Plus about $100 per month in gas savings. It would be the most we have ever paid for a car. We usually pay about $30k or less.

Do you actually get your 10-year-old cars serviced at the dealer?

I didn't say it wasn't but not everybody is an early adopter nor do most electric car drivers care about Mercedes or BMW. People drive electric because they care about the planet not their image.

My DH is really into cars and thinks Teslas are pretty cool, but would not get one because like some of the PPs, he’s concerned about the company being around in a few years. He recently bought a used series 5.

The model 3 competes with cars in its price range... but the 3 is an EV. Nothing to do with image but cost. Buying a Tesla now does not make you an early adapter

I <3 Volvo generally, and their hybrids look amazing (mine is 2 years old and before they had many options). But do test drive - I'm always surprised at what I like and don't like (BMW SUV's and even the i3 has a far reach-back for the seatbelt, which drives this shorter driver nuts) https://www.volvocars.com/us/build/hybrid
