Mohel for Non-Jewish Circumcision?

16:20 here. I'm not aware of any denomination-wide practices, although they may exist. For us it's just connecting with a covenant that's been part of our religion's roots for thousands of years.

The main reason to use a mohel is that they remove the foreskin in only 30 seconds.

Anyone here who has used Rabbi Rovinsky?

Is Rabbi Rovinsky still available?

Sandra Bullock announced today that she had her son circumcised by a mohel.

She is non-Jewish.

sorry, i'm a little confused; why not just have the procedure done by your OB? Or a urologist? Especially if you have no religious need to use a mohel?

The reason that non-Jews use a mohel is because they do a faster and less painful job.

I just spoke with Rabbi Henesch the other day about the bris for my son. He did ask me if my husband was Jewish. I said yes (and so am I) and he said, ok - I do perform the procedure for inter-faith couples. So it's worth a try to check him out. This is his website: http://www.mysonsbris.com/index.html
He was extremely nice on the phone.

Thanks for sharing the useful information.
I am thinking to ask Dr. Marmon too, and my boy is one month old. How's your boy doing now?

Anonymous wrote:We have our son's non-religious/outpatient circ scheduled with Dr. Marmon. Immediately after the baby's born you schedule a preliminary visit with his office (usually occurs about a month after birth); at that screening they schedule you for the circ one week later; then there's a post-circ check-up a week after that. He uses a local anesthetic and needs the baby in before the 2-month mark (after which I believe he's required to use general anesthetic).

I think he's in the $600 range but am not entirely sure, as ours is covered by insurance (BCBS).

PP: Funny I happened to read this. DS is 9 mo and is great! Light of my life. The circ went fine and, except for the first 5 minutes after the local wore off, never seemed to bother him.

Which mohels do non-Jewish circumcisions?

Interesting! We had DS circ'd by our OB, but I could see how a rabbi might be a better choice.

We used Dr. Marmon and everything was great. We had to do a delayed circumcision because our first son was a preemie and they would not do it in the hospital because he was too tiny. I can't remember when (at what month we did it) but we called him and had an initial appointment and then came back to have the procedure done. It was in the out patient office in Shady Grove. I think I had a 100 or 200 copay with my insurance (It is the outpatient surgery copay) It was reassuring knowing not only that he a pediatric surgeon but also a mohel (so an expert). We had to push things back for some time because my son had extra fat down there but everything went well. With our second son, we had the procedure done in the hospital by our OB and the recovery time was similar. No major main/discomfort and everything was completely back to normal within a few days. Good luck.
