We're Jewish and Dr. Marmon did our sons bris (religious circumcision). Did an excellent job. You really can't go wrong with using a pediatric surgeon for such a delicate procedure. Will use him again this spring with our second son!

What level of anesthetic does Dr. Marmon use (office procedure, not religious)? What followup care does he provide? Can you call the Shady Grove office to schedule? Any idea how much he charges when it isn't covered by insurance? Thank you!

Does Dr. Marmon do non-religious circumcisions too?

We have our son's non-religious/outpatient circ scheduled with Dr. Marmon. Immediately after the baby's born you schedule a preliminary visit with his office (usually occurs about a month after birth); at that screening they schedule you for the circ one week later; then there's a post-circ check-up a week after that. He uses a local anesthetic and needs the baby in before the 2-month mark (after which I believe he's required to use general anesthetic).

I think he's in the $600 range but am not entirely sure, as ours is covered by insurance (BCBS).

Thank you, this was very helpful. Do you know what type of local anesthetic he uses? Would you mind following up after the procedure's been done to let us know how it went?

11:04 here. Glad it was helpful! I don't recall offhand what local it was--my husband has been the one making the arrangements. Our baby is due in another 2 weeks, so it'll be awhile still before I can report back, but I'll be happy to do so.

We learned of Dr. Marmon through this thread, for those looking for more feedback/other suggestions: http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/53578.page.

Want to hear something ridiculous. The state of MA is voting on a bill to ban circumcision with the threat of up to 14 years jail time. Is that a sick joke, if I want to cut a small piece of useless skin off my son I shouldn't be sent to jail for it. People are absurd sometimes.

PP, I wouldn't worry:

BOSTON, MA [CHI] — A bill proposed in the Massachusetts legislature can affectively ban ritual circumcision in the State. The bill calls for banning all male circumcision of anyone under the age of 18, unless medically necessary.

The “Massachusetts State Prohibition of Genital Mutilation Act” was filed on January 14th, 2009 by a private citizen, Charles A. Antonnelli. The act would impose a fine and/or up to 14 years in prison on anyone who violates this ban.

Mr Antonelli is the Massachusetts director of a group working to ban what it calls “male genital mutilation.” He has been petitioning the ban on circumcision for four years now, albeit unsuccessful.

The bill is presented by Democratic State Senator Michael W. Morrissey by request, on behalf of his constituent. Massachusetts State law requires any Senator to file anything a constituent requests.

This bill does not seem to have the support of anyone in the Massachusetts legislator and has no sponsors.

Antonelli petitioned Massachusetts legislative many times now, but the bill has never passed committee.

The committee has public hearing scheduled for March 2nd in the Massachusetts State House in Boston; where among other proposed bill, the circumcision ban act will be discussed.

If you think it is useless you should keep reading. Your choice, of course, but there certainly are functions.

07:14, yes, for non-Jewish circs. (We're Christian and actually would have preferred an 8th-day circ for religious reasons, but Dr. Marmon won't attend those.)

Just out of curiosity, which Christian denomination does 8th day religious circumcision?
