How rich do you have to be to fly on private jets?

Flying private shows a climate lack of concern for the environment--carbon footprint, anyone or si that just for the peons to worry about?

We can afford to fly private....some of the time....but from where we live we can generally fly domestically non-stop which makes a huge difference. We flew in earlier this evening on a flight that was delayed an hour and I'm sure that the majority of the people on the flight were sweating over their connections the entire 3 hour flight. A delay is a pain, but a missed connection is misery.

It is a TERRIBLE thing to do to the environment.

They contribute nothing compared to what commuters add driving alone to work. I agree that it is a ridiculous use of fossil fuel but we are all guilty.

Al Gore travels the world preaching about the environment....often traveling in a PJ.

What a BS. And who cares? Your existence and your consumer life do more damage to the environment.

BS. I see my kids' private school friends flying private (with their dads?) and they're not $100mm rich. They boast about it on instagram/snapchat.

It's probably the company jet. It's a whole different ballgame if you can charge it off as a business expense.

Definitely. If Dad can cinch a deal while taking a few kids to Florida...etc. we have seen this before.

On the other hand, I think the folks with 15-30M net worth sometimes fly private because it seems "fancy" and technically they can afford it. They are the ones who brag about it. No one worth 100M+ (at least, no adult!) is bragging about flying private, because they are typically trying to hide (to some extent) their extreme wealth.

This is my experience anyway. There's always exceptions.

Mine too. Although I dont think I know quite as many as you!

Most people I know that fly private have a net worth of at least $100 million. They also have a reason like a house somewhere that is difficult to get to commercially

....on a farm or ranch large enough to have a landing strip tucked away and a small hanger.

Easy on the envy .

I fly private sometimes because I have an arrangement with the company that flies to the same place I'm going. I know their pilot. He asked the exec and they're happy to let me tag along if they have space.

We've had the opportunity to fly several hundred miles with friends in a small Cessna with iffy weather predicted. No thanks. The risks are extremely high.
