Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize

Anonymous
It's a complete farce.

Among the nominees who were passed over in favor of Obama:

Sima Samar, woman's rights activist in Afganistan who kept her schools and clinics open risking her life even throughout the most opressive of Taliban rule. Now the minister of Woman's Affairs in Afganistan.

Dr. Denis Mukwege, founder and head of a hospital in the war torn Congo, dedicating his life to helping women and girls who are victims of gang rape and brutal sexual violence. No where on the planet are more women raped and brutalized.

Hu Jia, a human rights activist and an outspoken critic of the Chinese government, who was sentenced last year to a three-and-a-half-year prison term for ‘inciting subversion of state power.

Wei Jingsheng, who spent 17 years in Chinese prisons for urging reforms of China’s communist system.

These people have had real accomplishments. If the prize is not about accomplishments, but about hopes and dreams then why were these 4 nominated along with many other deserving contributors to real peace? By even awarding any of these people the prize would have been a slap in the face to the tyrants that oppressed them and their people and brought their issues to light, even if for only 5 minutes, not to mention, their causes, especially the doctor in Congo could have actually used the money to better the world.

A few of you disciples can keep on defending the award, but it show what lemmings you all are. Think for yourself, don't be so pathetic and blindly worship your Christ and constantly spew the party line.

Most people aren't anti-immigrant, they are anti-illegal-immigrant.

And yes we should withdraw from Afghanistan - this president is very nice but te troops deserve better direction than nice

Society has drawn a distinction between just and unjust conduct during wartime for thousands of years. Certainly you know that. But if you don't, maybe you should start reading about Jus in Bello. Google it, it will knock your socks off.

The award was silly, but what keeps people like me defending the guy (who hasn't done much of what we had hoped for) is attacks like yours. If your goal is to vent, that's fine; if it's to convince anyone of the correctness of your views, your strategy stinks.

I'm wondering how many of you bitching about Obama receiving the award -for which he did nothing to nominate himself- can recall the last 5-10 NPP winners w/o resorting to the internet. Were you always this interested? A few may but I bet the vast majority cannot and are only bitching b/c it is Obama that one.

Also, there are plenty of NPP winners over the years that have been deemed political or who were criticized. So, this is not new.

I think some of you could take a lesson from a GOP hero, John McCain, who came out publicly to congratulate Obama. He was very gracious. Something I can't say of many of the people posting here.

That would be "it is Obama that won."

Who is the "bow down to your christ" guy? He keeps showing up on threads with the same "oh you worship the guy, he's your Jesus you stupid lemmings" message. It's pretty played out at this point.

We need some new material, "bow down" guy. Find another rant.

Do you have anything substantive to say? I thought not so why not put your tail between your legs and walk away.

And they're not most people now are they? Besides you're even talking about anti-immigrant sentiment that's just pure racism. Stop being such a weirdo.

No, it's repetitive and boring. You can only get so much mileage by pretending that we worship the President. Many of us just really, really disliked his predecessor. If you keep resorting to playground-style taunts to rebut other people's arguments (including the "tail between your legs" thing), I can only assume that it is you who is without substance.

This is silly. My grandparents were immigrants and my husband's parents were too. I'm friends with several immigrants. But, I am anti-illegal-immigrant. Now, I am for opening up immigration laws in some circumstances. But, I'm still against illegal immigration which I think makes things harder for those that play by the rules...

You don't have to have an achievement. Indeed, a NPP scholar who wrote a book on it said that Obama's award was more along the lines of what the founder/namesake had in mind when he created the prize (for lack of a better description). It's in the Post in, Friday's, I believe, edition.

Actually I think the "bow down to your christ" poster is lonely and bored. She deliberately avoids using actual sound arguments and attempts to antagonize in order to get a reaction. I'd hate to be her on the inside.
