Parents who insist on videoing at every school function holding their phones above their head...

I would like to be able to see my kid singing too, but your fat arm was in my way. DOWN IN FRONT.
You should have gotten there earlier so you could be down front too.

So only the front couple rows are entitled to see?

I remember before cell phone video that we got a good seat in the second row. A woman in front of us was saving a seat for her husband--who was as big as a bear. He must have been 6 foot 5--and his build was full. Then, he had a camera with a tripod and stood up to film. NO one behind him could see a thing. RUDE. He easily could have sat in the back and had a good view over everyone.

OP, this is a HUGE pet peeve of mine, at school performances and at Disney World (no, I don't want to watch the parade through your iPad!).

I agree they are annoying but they are a fact of life - the same parents fight for the front rows of every performance and do this every time, so get used to it and try and relax and watch the show.

Trust me - they are not watching them....

Yep. I get taking a picture or a short clip but the people who record he entire thing are not going to watch some shaky video.

Why can't you just ask them to move? "Excuse me, you're blocking my view, do you mind moving?"

So Grandma's desire to see your kid perform trumps my desire to see my own kid perform? Unbelievable.

One year I had two parents OF THE SAME KID two rows in front of me, both filming with their full sized I-Pads. They completely blocked the window between their heads through which I could see the stage. I really hate those people.

I find these stories, while convenient for your point, so unbelievable. If that happened to me I’d tell them to put their iPads down. If it’s do egregious say something.

Having been to three different end of year or promotion programs this week, sadly I find it completely beleiveable.

Agree -- its totally believable because I've seen stuff like this too.

because you'd have to move 80% of the audience....

This. It's so annoying. Yes, I get you want to send to grandma or to post it or whatever you're doing. But, we'd like to see our child, too. It's gotten so bad that at a recent strings concert, parents were going ON STAGE minutes before the first song to get pics of their kid. It's ridiculous.

Have some manners and a bit of shame at how ridiculous you look. Snap a few pics and a few seconds of video and then sit the eff down/put your behemoth cameras and ipads down.

I actually asked a parent to move his arm down last week and he said no. I was completely shocked and wish I would have had a better response.

Wow. I'm sorry. People are so freaking rude.

I don't mind when there are lot of individual or small group performances. Probably only a few people filming at a time. I don't really care if you block my view when my kid isn't up.

Then just start filming him.

+1 Most people are not filming or taking pics the whole time. I don't see what all the fury is about.

PP you insulted. Why are you so aggressive? We record to the side with a tripod so as not to block. We never record on a cell phone, the quality is really bad.
And my arms are very slim, thank you.

Sooo. in a school with 1300 elementary students, how many parents are able to set up a tripod to the side without blocking people???

Op here and the last two they did record the entire time my child was up and blocked my view. It’s irritating. I have gotten a sitter for my other kids in order to sit in the gym for an hour and see nothing. The other was a preschool program that was four fairly short songs. Most parents recorded the entire thing.
Someone recording their own child walking across the stage at graduation and then putting their phone down? Fine.
