Daphne, Sabrina, Eloise, or Louisa?

Agree with PP that Sabrina, Eloise, and Louisa are all immediately going to be nicknamed. I'm not a fan of nicknames so that would be another deterrent to me, personally. But lots of people love a nickname.

What's a nickname for Sabrina?

Elouise twists my tongue up. And I strongly dislike the “Ellie” nicknames. And “wheezy” is such a terrible thing to call a child.

These are hands down my two favorites, too. How many syllables in your last name?

One. Super boring simple easy last name (like Smith)

If your name is like Smith in that it starts with an S sound, that might make me rethink Eloise. The ending and starting S sounds will blend together and the name will sound like El-oo-ee Smith.

My daughter's name is Louisa and at least so far nobody has called her Wheezy--just Lou, Louie, Lulu. I agree Wheezy is a bad nickname and it could always pop up later. (Although of course anybody could pick up a bad nickname unrelated to their name, so you can't avoid all nickname risk.)

I LOVE Louisa! I also like Eloise, but not nearly as much. I like Ellie as a nn for Eloise, but there are so many of them. I don’t like Daphne or Sabrina at all.

The rest are ok.

If Daphne reminds you of "Scooby Doo," it's because you're not well-read. Daphne is a lovely name!

I love Eloise. Daphne is cute too.

I like them all. Have you considered Penelope or Calliope? They have a similar feel.

Nope, sorry. My name is not Daphne, and neither of my daughters are named Daphne. But I have read Daphne du Maurier, and I know of the Greek myth of Apollo and Daphne.

I like Eloise better than Louisa, but am sick of all of the El- names, so I vote Louisa. Then Daphne, then Sabrina (teenage witch). That said, all are nice names so I think you're in great shape no matter which one you go with!

My oldest DD is Sabrina so I’m partial to that one. Someone mentioned nicknames, I have a pet/nickname for her but no one else tries to shorten her name. We picked her name after she was born, but Daphne was on our list too. Luisa is a nice name as well. A pp mentioned Eloise sounds like a mouthful and I agree.

In which Daphne gets turned into a laurel tree so that Apollo can't rape her. It's not a myth I'd cite as a reason for naming my child Daphne.
