Just Make Reed an Option School Already

A person can dream, right?

What low enrollment numbers? We're over capacity, classes are in trailers, specials on carts.

As a Nottingham parent, I don't actually have a problem with the idea of making Nottingham a choice school. Yes, there would be disruption to moving schools, but a big chunk of the school would move with us so my kids will have friends in their new school, and we'd end up at Discovery so what's the problem there? But you need to make an argument for that based on actual facts, not your imagination, or else you're just wasting everyone's time.

And lest you think I'm just posturing, I'm the same poster who above put Nottingham on the table as one of the three schools that could possibly make sense for an option program in

APS put out a purposely misleading walk zone expansion map that leaves out more than half of actual walkers. Lisa Stengel can’t stop talking about “too many schools in the NW quadrant.” Every other parent on here thinks wrongly that Tuckahoe has 78 walkers as a result. We’re not stupid. You think we’re up in arms now? Just wait.

Can you please explain to the rest of us what the errors are? I’m a Nottingham parent so obviously I have a significant interest in what happens with this. I want to understand the problem so I can take it into consideration in my own advocacy, but I can’t do that if you don’t explain it to us non-Tuckahoe folks. If you don’t take the time to do it and the rest of us advocate for a problematic solution as a result because we are missing this information, you can’t point fingers later.

Make you sure claim those Nottingham/Tuckahoe overlap units for yourself.

Again, since I don't know what the purported error is, this makes no sense to me. I'm not sure why you're hiding what this supposed error is, unless there isn't actually an error and you're just making stuff up to try to protect Tuckahoe.

Nottingham is overenrolled! Oh, lady, take the temperature of the room before you go on about your problems, mkay?

Seriously. People need to remember it’s all about Tuckahoe. The rest of you are secondary concerns.

The super secret error must be the 3 townhouses along Lee Highway that Tuckahoe is betting the farm on...will this be Tuckahoe's last stand? Or will this be the like the Battle for Little Bighorn? Let's pop some popcorn. Stay tuned to find out who Tuckahoe throws under the bus next. Round 1 for the Option...will round 2 go to Tuckahoe?

Is that really it? Someone is arguing that a substantial number of elementary school students cross Lee Highway during morning rush hour to walk to Tuckahoe instead of driving?

These future townhouses (looks like it will be 27) at the suntrust bank location. They will be on the North side of Lee Highway.

I am actually curious who all of these mystery Tuckahoe walkers are.

Actually, I am a bitter McKinley parent who is still angry over Nottingham’s selfish, privileged attitude two years ago that we are still paying for now at McKinley. Oh sorry Nottingham do you have the same Art on Carts that we lived with FOR YEARS without complaining, but actually have serviceable outdoor fields for your kids to run around on, and have HALF of our school population? And you STILL think we needed to take both those planning units off of you, because ... you are so special? Cry me a river, Nottingham. You suck.

That will add what, maybe 6 or 7 kids to the elementary school? Crisis!

BWAH!! I actually feel bad for Tuckahoe because I know plenty of normal parents from that school, but the ones who post here make them all look insane.
Anonymous
Who are you people? Don't know anyone at Tuckahoe pushing back on the Reed decision. Parents will fight dissolving the school. But not at the expense of other families who go there. I doubt these folks are actual Tuckahoe parents.

Yes, yes they will. I'm sad that another school shows their true colors and they aren't pretty.

Remember that for all the grief Nottingham gets for not wanting those planning units that went to McKinley, Tuckahoe didn't want them either.
Anonymous
Eh. I believe Tuckahoe was perfectly willing to take one of them, but the units themselves didn't want to be split. Nottingham would not take even one. Because everyone is equal, but some children are more equal than others.
