Flip phone with no data capability. He can do old fashioned texting.

Sorry OP, you sound pretty ignorant. With your comments you show 0 knowledge of the problem, resources or even things hay you should start doing to help with the problem. Your only concern is to get a new phone for your kid to be able to keep up with his expectations and wants.

I am not surprised about anything that I am reading. Good luck to you and I suggest that you start doing some serious reading.

Have OP or others on this thread seen Screenagers? It has a lot of info about what's going on today with kids and their phones. There is going to be a free viewing of the movie at the Kingsbury Center on Wed. 2/21 at 5:30. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/screenagers-film-viewing-and-panel-discussion-tickets-42875707395?aff=eac2

I'm not OP but--seriously? You came to post just to make OP feel worse? OP has gotten some good advice on this thread about looking beyond the phone issue--but YOU offer none of the "resources or things [OP] should start doing" that you say OP needs. You offer nothing constructive except to say to read, and by now OP knows that. I hope you feel great all day, having posted just to pile on to a parent who is struggling. I hope your own parenting is absolutely perfect. Clearly you must think it is.

I agree. That 13 yr old does not need a cell phone and I'm sure that not all of his middle school class/school mates have cell phones. I have a 7th grader who has been surviving in middle school without a cell phone.
