how much do you spend on food a month?

No.

He has posted before with those ridiculous numbers chiding everyone else for how much they spend on food.

He means $50 for the entire family.

We ALWAYS eat at home, and spend about $200 per month.

How do you do this?

Shop mainly at Aldi for all basics. Don't eat meat every day, and buy vegetables and fruit depending on what is in that weeks paper as best deals. We cook enough so there will be leftovers for the kids for lunch. We only drink water with our meals, and almond milk with coffee/cereal. Soda or juices are for special occasions only.

We don't buy all the expensive cleaning products that promise to change your life. Vinegar and baking soda for scrubing. Alcohol deluted with water works great on countertops and stainless steel.

Yeah....we do that as well and spend more than you spend in a month in a week. I'm sorry but I don't buy it for a second that you feed a family of 4 for $50/week

I agree and would like to see a menu for the week. I am guessing she is buying a lot of processed products

Why don't you tell me your menu and I can help you FIX it? We don't eat a lot of processed. No ramen noodles or processed lunch meats.

I think the burden of proof is on you. You are the one who is said 50 a week is possible.

Do you know that eggs do NOT cost 79 cents a dozen in this area, yes, even at Alexis?

Take your budget and multiply it by 2- 3 and that is how much you would spend here.

Aldis not Alexis.

All you posters who don't believe $50 a week is possible. Do you shop at Aldi at all?

What city or state do you live in?

You do realize prices vary greatly from say Arkansas to DC? Even at Aldi.

Family of 4, two adults, two children 4 and 1.5. We spend closer to $2000 on all groceries and household goods (paper towels, soap, shampoo etc). We eat breakfast and dinner at home and some snacks. All lunches are out, and the cost of these lunches is in addition to the $2000.

We buy branded stuff, no store brand. Generally our meals are pretty good, but nothing too fancy, like no steak every night etc. How on earth are people feeding families for $500???

That’s not a proof. Maybe you feed your kids one meal a day. Like that crazies with 13 kids.

How on earth are you spending only that much on that many people and teens? I shop at Aldi and spend a ton more for less people! You are probably not counting all the take out and restaurant and fast food? If you are, what are you eating, cooking and where are you shopping?

I shop almost exclusively at Aldo’s myself, for a family of 4, for about 21 meals a week (kids take lunch to school), cook from scratch, and we eat leftovers. No way do I believe the $50 a week for 4 people. I believe that is less than snap. For every meal, for a week? For 4 people? No.

NP, I cook and cook well and what that pp posted is crazy, yes like 13 kids locked abusers crazy. If you are poor and you are managing that is ok, but if you have money and you are feeding 4 people, teen and a tween on 50 per week, you are not eating proper, healthy foods.

Anonymous wrote:We recently counted it up. We spend, on average, 1500 dollars a month on groceries and household items. I can’t believe you all spend so much less. We never go out to eat, like not even once a month, but still: I feel like our grocery bills are shocking.

I think they are lying.

Yes, I shop at Aldi and don't believe you. You are most likely not counting ton of fast food and money spent on it. If you are doing this, it borders on child abuse.

Ok - i’ll Bite. I have a family of 4. This week we are eating:

Grilled cheese and soup

Veggie burgers and rice

Pasta primavera

Vegetable soup and bread

Leftovers

Please give the $50 grocery list for the week.

I live in DC, shop mostly but not exclusively at Aldi. Family of three with a tween boy with a large appetite. I used to be able to get out of Aldi for under $100 a week but now that's rare.

The egg prices vary. I think they're rarely 79 cents. More like 1.19 IIRC but not 3 x 79 for the standard eggs.

Cereal is indeed about $2 - $2.50 a box for generic rice crepes, cheerios, etc. Apples are around $4 a bag. I buy the wild sockeye salmon for $10 for four filets. I could buy pink salmon for around $5 a bag.
