That's not the reason, and you know it.

Get the academics up and the in-bound neighbors will follow.

If you do not have children at Hardy, please find another thread. This is so tiresome.

Sorry, but I’m an in bound parent who should have two kids at Hardy. We’re shelling out for private schools because current situation with academics at Hardy are not up to par. This is very much my business

The only Hardy hater was that militant WTU teacher some years back who hated Rhee and led the opposition to Rhee's initiative to diversify Hardy by attracting more in-boundary Upper Northwest families.

So like the other haters you are not a Hardy parent and have no idea what is actually going on in the school and the extent of your knowledge of the school and its academics is probably limited to examining the test scores.

I'm a current Hardy parent. I don't look at standardized test scores as the be all indicator that a school is a great place of learning for my kid. Her scores are excellent, she's happy and is challenged and that's all that matters for me. I know there are kids that are coming to school that may be behind and not perform as well on standardized testing for a variety of reasons. AND that doesn't mean my kid isn't going to be friends with them or learn well with them.
Voice of sanity. Thank you.

Yes, that poster is back again! Took them awhile this time, though. Must have been offline.

What matters is where your kids test.

We liked Hardy. It wasn't perfect but it worked for our OOB child. But there are other folks who really can't cope with the idea of their child attending such an economically and racially diverse school. If that's you, that's cool. Know yourself.

Well, that is true of all DCPS middle and high schools, so the fact that OP is looking at DCPS at all suggests that is not an issue.
Well, the OP seemed not to know that the size of the OOB population at Hardy is an obsession of some people on DCUM. And I just wanted her to know that if she cares about such things that Hardy would not be a good choice for her.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Hardy uniforms.

OP, I can come and report back next year when DC goes to Hardy. I'm specially interested in doing so after DC take Parcc in middle school. I wan to see if his "college readiness" goes up or down or stays quite the same.

Hardy's improved a bit in the last 5 years. That said, I don't know any parent, given the choice of Deal or Hardy for his/her kid, who would voluntarily choose Hardy. That may seem harsh, but it's reality.

That is a fictional choice so in fact you don't know any parent who has made that choice.

And there is this question - are you a Hardy parent or not? It's an important question because when you actually talk to a Hardy parent most of them are enthusiastic about the school while the haters are too insecure about their own parenting to try it.

This is an odd post. We just bought a house in NWDC and our primary concern was public schools. Budget was 1.5 so we could have bought in neighborhoods that feed to Deal or Hardy comfortably. We chose a Hardy neighborhood. I don't want my kid at a middle school the size of some colleges. Hardy has a lot to offer.

It wasn't actually a fictional choice. Until this year, Eaton students could choose whether to attend Deal or Hardy.

As a current Eaton family, I'm watching with interest to see what this year's 5th graders do.

I'm all for economic and racial diversity. Not so much a fan of second-tier quality, however.

What indicators do you look at to tell know if the school is "second tier quality?", or is this assessment from personal experience?
