Would you pay for braces for entirely cosmetic reasons?

Will insurance cover for strictly cosmetic -- after turning 18? How much is this going to cost out of pocket?

Our health insurance pays up to $1500 lifetime max for orthodontia, so long as that person is on our plan. So that's about a 50% savings.

Yes, though it depends on how "cosmetic." We are doing it for DS because he had HUGE gaps between all of his teeth. Structurally, he is fine, but he is starting to get self conscious (11y) and we are going to do it.

I would not do it for slight imperfections.

OK. Thanks for sharing that.

Braces for only 3 grand? Where is this at?

Yes, I would do it only for cosmetic reasons. Especially if you think your child might be a white collar professional. Either do it now, or they will have to do it later.

There may be more to the story. My husband's ex refused to pay her share of the youngest child's braces. We offered to fully pay and she still refused. She simply didn't want to take him to all the appointments. His teeth look terrible. Hopefully he'll get them as an adult. Mom was getting plenty in child support and both parents had dental insurance for the kid so a portion of it would have been covered. His ex made it sound like my husband was to blame when really she was.

I don't believe you.

I got my oldest child turbos when suggested so that’s worked out well with no braces needed but I am paying 500 bucks for ZOOM! Whitening overseas. It is a huge self-esteem booster and closely tied to self-esteem as PP mentioned. Teeth are important, people are judgmental!

Yes, but our family can afford it without a problem. If that weren't the case, I don't think so.

Op, I am in the same situation. Can you please recommend your orthodontist as not everyone does Invisalign.
